Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel.
I bought a pot because I have seen some great things done with it.
Now I need to check I am going to do it right as it was expensive!
Best way to use it please?

I have been looking (just looking)at this too.
What colour did you go for out of interest yorkie?I was tempted by the clear to start with to give a sort of enamelled finish.

I thought I would have another go at triple embossing before I ordered some UTEE. Tried it on Saturday evening, was fun, but I wasn't 100% happy with the result and I got in such a mess with it too!!Grin

Let us know how you get on please.

I have also got a pot of this but not used it yet.

Think you can use it like normal embossing with a heat gun or buy a special melting pot and stick bits in that. It must be a special melting pot as it costs about £60 Shock.

I use it lots.

Its fab and by far the one item I could not do without!

You use it like embossing powder and melt with a heat gun.

I normally use three layers for a good finish.

I have melted and dipped too....used an old metal egg cup to melt in and got some fabby results.

You can make fab chipboard embellishments using it and once you start you will want to UTEE everything!!

I've triple embossed and then stamped an image into it, I quickly learned that I needed to do it on thick card.
It looks great as you're doing it,if you sprinke bits of gold, silver, bronze or different coloured embossing powders over it aswell.

so do I use ink on the item to be embossed and then put the powder on?

Ive used inks and embossing pad...both work fine.
Ink up whatever it is that you want to use the UTEE on and then sprinkle UTEE over it. Remove excess and then heat with the heat gun...first application will be a bit bumpy...second will start to flow and the third leaves a glossy hi finish shine.

I stamp card with the a Versa Mark pad first then sprinke the first coat all over and heat with gun while it's still hot I sprinke the next 2 coats add diffent colours when it's all melted I cover the stamp in versa mark just to protect it, then stamp it
Does that make sense have I explained it OK if not come back

how long does it stay pliable enough to work with? Also do you add layer 2 while layer 1 is still wet or do you reapply ink?

Here is a triple embossing project sheet I used at card club way back, if anyone wants it:

Vary the number of layers to vary the effect-

But remember that deep layers can drip, and I have been badly burned by dripping powder.
Stamps can stick in deep layers too, but don’t get damaged- if you use unmounted stamps, check the adhesive first. Allow to cool completely before removing if this happens.

Vary colours to make a stunning topper-

You can use a final layer in a different colour, or just sprinkle a small bit over the last layer for a more muted effect.

Silver + red pearl = pewter
Silver or gold with a sprinkle of white, baby blue or baby pink makes a fantastic baby card mix
At Christmas, festive green or red with an exaggerated swirl of gold is a great basis for a special card.
Bright pink with silver or gold and a daisy or heart is perfect for a teenager
Sparkle and tinsel powders add dazzle- try tinsel green with a Christmas tree stamp, or white tinsel with a dove stamp for a wedding card.

I would suggest buying powders from e-bay as you can buy a small amount of a colour at a time, or choose big containers of the really useful metallic colours. Always check the postage first, and if you can buy several from one trader at a time do- it often reduces postage price.
I particularly recommend e-bay for small bags of colours such as red and blue pearl, which add a great final layer to designs, but don’t always look too great used for straight embossing.

To make a design stand out, pat your finger onto an ink pad and apply gently around the design. If you apply too much or the wrong colour, you can use a baby wipe to remove.

Think about how you finish the embossed topper-

Mounting triple embossed toppers is often the most important consideration for a great card. Apertures are handy for this, or you can border with a pretty design in the same colour for a stylish and simple look. Cutting the design may cause it to crack, so cut your paper first.

If your design does crack (as they can), gently re-heat affected area only with your heat gun. If all goes pear-shaped, simply re-heat and stamp again.

Projects For Triple Embossing:

Moonlit Night Topper:

Needed: Small piece gold or silver card, cut into a half moon shape
Card Blank- white, gold, silver or black
Piece of card cut into a tag shape approx 4 “ long and 2” wide with hole punched
Piece of co-ordinating ribbon or cord
Embossing powders- black sparkle and holographic

Technique:

Completely ink over the tag and emboss using black sparkle. Repeat twice. On final layer, add a thin coat of holographic powder. This creates a ‘night sky’ effect. Glue or tape one edge of the ribbon behind the moon, thread through the tag hole and tape the other end behind the moon again- - leave enough ribbon for moon to hang in the sky. . Mount on your card. Also works well with a snowman or sleigh embellishment at Christmas.

Baby Card:

Needed: Small piece of cream card @ 2” X 4” (amend to fit your blank)
Cream card blank
Coloured paper in coffee
Basic baby stamp- eg, hands, feet, bottle
Embossing powder in gold and either white or mocha

Ink all over card and emboss three layers in gold. Reheat and add a swirl of white or mocha to the top, then impress stamp as normal. This technique mutes the metallic tone without losing it completely. Mount on coloured paper, then add to card.

You can change the mocha / white layer for a soft pink or blu if you know the sex of the baby, you might like to use silver instead of gold in this case.
