Quickutz, Sizzlits, acetate and other die cutting machines!

Hi, I'm a newbie to the board and to die cutting. I recently bought a Pink Squeeze and now I am looking at getting another machine - Sidekick/Tag-a-long or Big Shot or Wizard, can't decide! - to use mainly Sizzlits and Thin cuts in. What I would like to know (and sorry if this sounds dim!) is whether you cut materials other than paper/card using Quickutz and Sizzlits dies in the Big Shot or Wizard. Is the type of material you can cut dependent on the die or the machine you use? I want to cut shapes out of acetate but don't want to ruin my dies or lovely new Squeeze! Has anyone cut shapes out of acetate using their Quickutz? Sorry about all the questions, but I am so confused! Please help!

Emma

I've just got a Sizzix & have only just bought a Sizzlits alphabet. Certainly the larger Sizzix dies cut card, funky foam & I guess acetate - the thin ones may be too thin - but I've not tried. Hopfully a more experienced Sizzix bod will be along shortly

Welcome to the throng

Last night on ideal world they cut metal foil on the big shot with a thin die, so I think acetate would be okay.

They made some nice charms with the cut outs!

I'd wait until the plates issue is sorted out as I'm still having problems even with the supposedly new plates!

I have the sizzix and the tagalong. Have real issues and problems cutting sizzlits in the sizzix machine but i ABSOLUTELY love my tagalong adn it cuts most card fantastically. I haven't tried the thick thick card in it but it certainly cuts the fairly sturdy card

I use my sizzix machine to cut sizzix, QK or sizzlit die cuts from shrink plastic, which is the same thickness as acetate....havent tried it yet in the BS....but will!

BTW- i'm in the minority not being able to cut sizzlits in the sizzix. People did try to give me advice but I was getting so frustrated that in the end I just bought the tag a long and I'm so glad I did as it's so portable and handy

Well, I tried cutting some acetate with my Squeeze and it didn't work , so I guess it is the die cutter that makes all the difference. Guess I might be forced to buy the Big Shot or Wizard - Although the Big Shot seems a bit more user friendly at the mo....Does the Big Shot cut Sizzlits/Thins Cuts as cleanly as in the Sidekick/Tag-a-long? I've heard that Sizzlits don't cut so well in the Sizzix, so took Sizzix off my wish list.

I've used my sizzix to cut acetate and it cuts perfectly. Like pixiefish, I have problems with the sizzlits though.

My original dies on my sizzix cuts felt, shrink plastic, embossing metal....no problem at all. I don't have many sizzlits, only an alphabet but I have only attempted a fair weight card stock, which normally cuts OK. I have heard that sizzlit are just so much easier to cut in a sidekick/tagalong but I personally couldn't justify buying one in addition to my sizzix...not yet anyway!

The advantage the Wizard & the Big Shot has is it cuts a piece of A5 card, the opening on the sizzix is about 20% smaller.
I find the wizard great for embossing the only disadvantage is you have to remember to hold the end of the plate as it goes through, because the plates can go flying across the room.

I've had no problem with my Big Shot but I think I might be one of the lucky ones.

Suggestion
If you decide Big Shot try and buy local, tell the shop owner you are aware there is a fault with the plates and if they brake will they replace them, no charge and straight away have they got spare plates in stock.

The good old sizzix machine I've cut everthing on this even filmo and it's really coming down in price on Ebay have a look atthis a few of the girls have bought off this Seller I think. If you buy the coverter you can use any other company dies

I've never used the tag a long or sizlixx machines
