copyright lyrics etc on cards

where do you stand when someone wants a lyric as the verse in their card....i am assuming you can do it if you aren't selling the card...but cannot if you proffit???
or can you use it as long as you mention artist/record company etc.

If its copywritten then you need the permission of the copywrite owner to use the lyrics....but who's to know???

my thoughts exactly...and wouldn't the writer/singer be proud to be on one of MY cards!!! Making someone happy!!!
perhaps i should send the 'famous popstar' a sample carD!!!!
