Dress Fabric - best places to buy?

Hi
I'm struggling to find decent dress fabric online. I used to get some from John Lewis or Fenwicks when I lived in Newcastle, but now I'm in the wilds of North Yorkshire . I've found Boyes department stores sell ok craft fabric, but looking specifically for dress fabric.
I have my eye on making a stretch shift dress with elbow length sleeves so need a fine stretch wool, wool mix or even polyester crepe fabric.

Any website recommendations? Or ebay sellers?

www.macculloch-wallis.co.uk/ - london
dittofabrics.co.uk/ - brighton
www.croftmill.co.uk/
www.abakhan.co.uk/ - north west
www.fabricland.co.uk/ - headache inducing site
www.remnanthouse.co.uk/index.php - Harrogate??

Most will send samples, sometimes a limited number with an SAE.
Good luck

OOoh yes, fabricland site is extraordinary isn't it? It has several times been used in Business Link training as an example of how not to design a website! Good cheap fabric though!

I love abakhan and these two have been useful too:

//online-fabrics.co.uk

Although I live in Bucks, I managed a trip to Abakhan in Birkenhead this morning before leaving after a trip to see my family, I was very restrained. Next visit probably August!

Hi SewCrafty,

I have the same problem of not having a fabric shop around the corner. I'm not too partial to buying fabric online (you can't see or touch it!), but I've used these two suppliers on ebay and they are really good - fantastic quality too:

stores.ebay.co.uk/Fiddlesticks-Fabrics?_rdc=1
stores.ebay.co.uk/fabric-garden?_rdc=1
