Newbie card maker questions!

I usually lurk around this forum picking up all your excellent tips!! After many failed attempts I have now started producing some cards which I am relatively pleased with so I hoping (membership pending!) to post them in the gallery if my limited computer knowledge will manage it! I would welcome your comments or equally your criticisms!!

I have one question (but am sure many more will follow!) - what is the best way to stick either wire or thin wool to a card - I've tried PVA which just looked awful and micro glue dots which didn't hold at all well.

Have never tried it but what about superglue. It has such a fine nozzle. Failing that, a syringe of sorts. I have seen a fine nozzle syringe for glue somewhere and that looked good. More money though.

glue gun?
Or eyelets so you can thread the wool?wire through the card?

Coral....you have now been approved to join the Mn gallery.
Do you know how to post up your piccies?

I mainly use PVA. Apply thinly to underside of wire/wool and put something heavy on top to hold while it dries.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have tried a glue gun but it left too thick a line of glue. A fine nozzle syringe might work - I'll have a look for one.

Eyelets are a good idea too Jayzmum but what do you do with the end that goes through to the inside of the card to stop it looking a mess? Is it best to cover the whole thing over or is there another trick?

Thanks for the approval for the gallery! Yes, I would welcome an idiots guide to how to post pictures!!!

Thankyou dingle - I think maybe that a need a much finer nozzle for my PVA!!!

coral....you can add an insert that would hide the underside of the eyelet or you can buy eyelets that have an extra eyelet that is smaller and it fits through the hole....just bash it and the eyelet is finished off properly

have you opened an album yet on the gallery?

I do use a small bottle that I refil. It has a very fine nozzle, I think it is designed for use on things like quilling.

Must admit I do need a replacement soon, so I will be on the look out for one too. I seem to remember there being an add in the back of craft mazanine for them, but how long ago....who knows!!

That should be an ad not an add...how did that extra "d" get there?

Thanks for the link Dingle - I reckon that would definitely work much better that the jumbo sized nozzle I am battling with at the moment!! I will get one and let you know how I get on!!

Jayzmum - I have bought an eyelet maker thingy but only have eyelets which leave the hole. I have not seen the "extra eyelet" ones. Do you know where I can get these from as they sound like they would certainly give a much more professional finish.

Havn't opened an album yet on the gallery - I am about to go a wrestle with it! I may be some time!!!

Well, surpassed myself and managed to upload 3 cards into the gallery. It has taken me quite a long time to develop my own "style" so to speak. My latest card is the rabbit first birthday I have made for my next door neighbours little girl! I have to say that the last few cards I have made and sent have been very much in this vein so must be something I am settling on.

Do you more experienced card makers find that you settle into a style that you like?

I have been watching those QVC craft shows and having seen them I am really trying to try and do something different (and hopefully a little original!) which cannot be bought in a bulk buy packet, cut out and stuck on from some TV shopping channel. Am I the only one who is absolutely aghast at the amount of people who buy those decoupage press and cut-out sets?

They are really nice !
As think as you make more cards you find what works & what doesn't. I shudder at some of my first cards and I'm still learning now. I think you do find yourself making similar style cards though. Maybe its because you start with a particular pile of similar bits & pieces.

Me too!!!! Shuddering at the ones I made straight out of Baker Ross. They were good, but they were out of the BR catalogue. Now I am making cards that I think of myself. But also finding that they are already made by someone. There is only so much you can put on a card. You will find your own style.

I do try though, not to make the same ones.

wow your cards are lovely

The next time you post any new pictures you need to delete the full size image.

To do this you need to load your pictures.
Then click on the image.

Along the top you will see the words Full Size.
Click on this.

Your picture will come up huge....scroll right and along the top of the picture there will be the words delete full size image....click on this.

Dont worry your photo will stay....you are just deleting the full size image.

The screen will then ask if you wish to delete your image....click delete and your picture will have been shrunk.

It just allows us to have more storage space...which is running out fast!!!!
