4.9mm measurement at 13 week nuchal scan

Hi everyone I'm 13 weeks pregnant and had my nuchal scan last week. To my horror I was told my nuchal measurement seems to be 4.9mm which I know over 3mm is high. Ever since I just feel lost, confused and worried. I have an appointment to see a specialist tomorrow to have more in depth scans, I've been all over the internet looking up similar stories but I wondered if anyone has anything to add to my story. I'm just so worried. Thanks

Hi mumsstar. Please try not to worry, the NT measurement isn't not always accurate. Lots of women have a high measurement and go on to have healthy babies. I suppose you need to think about what you want to do next. On the NHS they do bloods too then can give you a ratio of risk, the next step is am amnio. An alternative to this is a private blood tests, engaging from £295 to £500 and that can tell you more.

The very difficult question I suppose you need to think about is what will you do if it's bad news? Do you want to know or just carry on with the pregnancy?

The ladies are really helpful on here, they helped me loads. If we can help atall we will. I've been exactly where you are now.

Stay strong xxx

Hi OP, how did your consultation go today?

I just wanted to let you know my 12 week scan also showed a 4.9mm nuchal measurement, combined with bloods this gave me a 1 in 25 chance of a chromosomal abnormality. I had CVS at 14 weeks which was negative and then a fetal ECG later on which was also fine. The doctors put it down to just one of those things.

Sorry that you're going through this, I know how hard it is. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them xx

I also had a raised NT at 12 weeks it was a horrid shock as I had no idea what an NT was I thought they just checked for a heart beat at that stage. It's such an awful thing to go through and I'm very sorry it's happened to you. We opted for no further testing and are very lucky I have a healthy 20 mth old dd but it ruined my pregnancy and meant I had a monitored consultant lead birth which wouldn't have been my choice. There are no rights or wrongs in this situation but I hope everything goes well for you take care x

Was not good news for us I'm afraid my little baby had no heartbeat :( I have to go in tomorrow to have the baby by taking tablets etc. Baby was measuring 13w+4 so had grown since Thursdays scan. Little heart mustn't have been able to cope. Not a good time. H&h 9months to everyone x
