V bad blood results, reassuring cvs result

I have spent the last 5 days lurking on this board looking for reassurance - which I found. In return I would like to tell you what has happened to me over the last 5 days.
I had a nucal scan on 7th feb - measured 0.88mm - all good, had bloods taken and thought nothing more of it until a phone call on Monday morning saying blood results combined with age (35, 36 by due date) gave my baby a 1:10 chance of Down's Syndrome. Due to elevated beta Htg (2.7 mom) and low papp-a (0.22mom). Decided to have a cvs at first opportunity, Tuesday morning. All v frightening. Immediately morning sickness came back.
Anyway, had cvs on Tuesday, alone, dh away on business. It wasn't too bad but lots of cramping afterwards. And then the wait. Which is when I found myself lurking on these boards looking for stories with positive outcomes. I got the results this morning - clear for down's, edward's and patau's. Big relief. I will be monitored closely due low Pappa, with 2 extra growth scans. But as the midwife pointed out squiffy bloods could just be the norm for me.
Anyway, hope this little tale gives someone hope during the horrific wait for results. I was convinced I would be the 1 of 1 in 10 and this board helped me recognise what, as I would in a less emotional state, that a 1 in 10 risk is the same as a 90% chance that my baby wouldn't have down's syndrome.

Thank you very much for sharing your story - your bloodwork numbers and age are not that dissimilar to mine and I am waiting it out so it's always good to hear of great results!

My PAPP-A was 0.2 - I'm almost 29 weeks now and have already had one growth scan at 28 weeks and little one was measuring 10 days ahead already so I'm optimistic about the growth issues, but I have another scan soon.

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!

Boowoo, congratulations, lovely to hear good news stories to add to the archives, I remember scrolling through looking for outcomes when I was waiting for my CVS results after a 1:15 risk (all clear, too).

My PAPP-A was low too, at 0.39 MoM and I was very anxious about growth issues. My hospital wouldn't do a growth scan for me (very annoying) so I paid for one privately at 28 weeks. My baby is also measuring ahead, with the head, length and weight all above average. Baby weighed an estimated 3.5lb at 28+6.

Antenatal Results and Choices told me that while there may be a slightly increased risk of growth issues, this wasn't well researched. The private sonographer said that she'd scanned lots of ladies with a low PAPP-A and it was very rare for a growth issue to be identified.

I hope that helps make you feel better and more positive, you've leapt the big hurdle and I wish you well for the rest of your pregnancy.

Claire x

I just remembered - Prof Nicolaides at the FMC told me personally I had about a 1 in 20 chance of restricted growth with my PAPP-A :)

Having said that, a friend with a similar number was that "1" (she'd been told 1 in 5!) but she was monitored and her baby was born safe and healthy at 35 weeks (very tiny!) but he more than made up for it and is a bouncing 1 year old now.
