Hello, i'm new to this board and looking for some information/help/stories.

I am 13+2 weeks pregnant with baby number 5 i had my nuchal scan on the 24th Jan when i was 12+5 weeks. The baby had a nuchal fold of 6mm. This has frightened the living daylights out of me. I had my cvs done on wednesday 13 weeks and the consultant looked ta the baby and has said that she can see no sign of hydrops or hygroma all limbs, heart and stomach are looking good at this point. I have another weeks worth of waiting for the result but i can't help thinking the worst.
I have had 3 missed miscarriages in the past all died at 6 weeks but my body held onto them till a week before my 12 week scan.
If the chromosones are clear then i'll be having a scan at 15 weeks and then a scan in london to look at the heart more clearly.
I can't concentrate on anything at the moment.

Thank you for listening anyone with similar stories i'd be greatful if you could tell them.

Hi, I had my cvs on Monday and got the results by Wednesday . They said I may have to wait 5 days . My situation is different as it was the bloods that put my risk up but just thought I'd lend an ear as I know how awful waiting is .

Hi, we had a cvs in December and although our results got really delayed by the snow, you should get preliminary results within 72 hours. I know what you mean about thinking the worst, it means you feel like you are preparing yourself in case... However, we got good news and the all clear from both the preliminary and full karotype results - which was amazing news. Worth mentioning that our risk was put up by bad bloods and not nuchal though. Could you call the hospital and check you can't get the results any faster? It is the waiting that is the really tough bit. I pestered the hospital for results!

Lots of lovely ladies on here who have gone through similar who I'm sure will pop up to give you words of advice.

I got the all clear thank you..My odds were 1 in 25 of Edwards Syndrome , I believe if you are under 1 in 50 they get your test done first but that may differ from hospital to hospital

I didn't get odds i just had the nuchal fold scan the midwife said that because of my age( 37) the blood test wasn't woth doing with such a high fold. I had a cvs done in 2005 as well due to a fold of 3.2 that was also 10 days i had to wait. He turned out ok, but with a 6 its a bit panicky. I don't know why they don't do preliminary results.
I'm just hoping that with no obvious markers seen that things might be different.

Glad you both got the all clear.

I'm sorry you're going through such a stressful time. I hope you hear the results soon and they're good ones.

I have heard of quite a few babies with big nuchal folds who have turned out just fine - although it is a marker, there are other reasons to have an enlarged one which can be perfectly benign. Here's hoping yours is one of them!
