Scared of postnatal depression

I have suffered with several bouts of depression through out my life, including being hospitalised in 2011.
Its always been my dream to be a mother and my partner is very suportive but I am very scared that I will get post natal depression.
I have read a previous history of depression makes it more likely and that, combined with the fact I do not have any family around to support me, makes me very scared.
My partners ex suffered badly with postnatal depression and I really don't want to put him through that again.
Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Any advice of reassure anyone can give, especially from those who have suffered with depression and have not gone on to develop postnatal depression, would be much appreciated.

It might happen but with your history, you are likely to be referred to a perinatal mental health team who can help you (possibly with medication) to prevent a relapse or, if it does happen, to treat you early to prevent it getting worse.

Do you still have a CPN? Speak to them about it and they can reassure you of the support that they will be able to offer you.

Lots of women with a past history of depression get pregnant and most are fine. It isn't a guaranteed thing to happen.

No I don't have a CPN.
I just feel really torn, I so want a child but depression has had me in some very dark places and I don't want to put my partner (or myself) though that again.
Its causing me a great deal of worry and anxiety

Thank you so much for your help and advice.
I don't feel so alone now. I have also made an appointment to see my GP and discuss my fears with her.
Thank you Thanks
