AIBU?

To have sent a snotty email to ELC?

I have just received a marketing email from the ELC. It states, in big, bold letters - "Just Launched! Up to 50% OFF Sport & Activity Toys: Prepare for Summer Holiday Fun..."

Well, I then go to the website to find that most things are 10-15% off and the highest discount is 31%

I know I should have other things to worry about, but it just smacks of a cynical marketing ploy and just dishonest!

I would usually just delete the message, but I am clearly in a bad mood today, so sent them an email telling them that I expected more honest marketing from the ELC.

YANBU.

But don't expect a reply. I sent a snotty email to ELC once after been refused a refund for an ELC cot toy that had an intermittent fault. Because of course in the shop when I tried to return it it was working. I also had no receipt and the manager said I might have stolen it and be trying to get some cash back! I've NEVER gone back in.

I expect that there was one thing at 50% off (which may have now sold out).

YANBU (and neither are trading standards) to expect any retailer advertising up to 50% off to have something at that price. YABU, however, to hold the ELC to a higher standard than any other retailer. Why do you think they are so fantastic?

Most retailers use the 'up to 50% off' gimic, it really annoys me.

I received the email at 16:49 and went straight to their site (as we are looking at outdoor toys for dc at the moment)
I find it hard to believe that whatever they had at say, 49%off had sold in 30 seconds.

I don't think I do really expect more honest marketing from ELC - I junst wanted to shame them a bit.

Was £40, now £20. On the front page of the website when I looked just now. Perhaps you shamed them into making it obvious.

Hmmm

This

Was the website page that came up from my email - maybe I have jumped the gun, or they sent me a different link

YANBU. I'm going to send a snotty letter to Next. Went into a store, menswear/homeware 1st floor. Jumped in lift, off we went. Got out at menswear, trundled over to homeware which was situated at the bottom of a flight of stairs. Three or four stairs, fine, I would have bumped the buggy up and down. But a whole narrow flight is bloody ridiculous. And I wasn't about to wake dd up to make her walk. Put piggin' menswear down the stairs (yes I know, men in wheelchairs!).

And our local Clarks has the children's shoes upstairs and no lift. [fume]
