I've no idea if it's a thread about a thread. Well, a thread about threads I suppose.

Anyway, the thread about a thread thing is stoopid anyway.

(It always makes me when the "bad form" line is trotted out)

Quoting what?

Inspirational sayings?
Peer reviewed research?
Estimates for kitchen refits?

No I don't get that either. I can't see what's so heinous about it.

Anyway anyway anyway

At least we don't have that annoying facility to copy vast swathes of previous posts into your reply so that you have to wade through the entire thread again multiple times to get to the poster's point.

I quite like that Eleanor Roosevelt one.
Isn't she just saying, Cultivate a Fuck-You attitude. In 1940's lady style.

You mean something like "a horse, a horse a kingdom for my horse"?

Or do you mean quoting back an earlier post at someone (which can sometimes look a bit arsey)?

I used to go on Lostpedia (saddo emoticon) and OMG the quoting that went on there, it was ridiculous. Whole pages of earlier quotes, complete with tickers and fave pictures from the show and special sayings etc.... then on the end, someone would add "I agree." Took hours! Still addicted to it though.

Yes, have always said this - when you start cutting and pasting and having circular arguments with someone the thread is dead.

Exceptions are when you are C&Ping something funny which someone said, and when it is lighthearted thread.

HATRED of threads which are serious, and some dumbass with C at A Level Law is trying to pick holes in your argument. At which point I sod off.

E.g. steiner school threads, working mothers bashing threads, anything about breats feedind, anything about abortion, every single politics thread during the election.

Have I completely misundersdtood the OP?

Are you on about people quoting other posts in a thread (if so see above).

If you are talking about famous people - well I haven't seen many people quote Stephen Fry or whatever but if I did I would think they were a twat.

How do you keep track of who you are speaking to if you don't quote them?

What about when someone has said something in a particularly succint and effective way? I suppose they've already said it. Bugger.

I do this all the time. Look, if I Ctrl-V now you'd get: "give with a good heart or dont bother".

As Jonathan Swift said, "Argument, as usually managed, is the worst sort of conversation, as in books it is generally the worst sort of reading".
