That's it really.

(And yes I do realise I am a big girl now and not 5, 27 in fact.)

Well hope does spring eternal apparently
(although not in this house)

What did you get?

Erm... nothing.

Well, a card from DH (that he wrote out this morning) a card from the kids (that I told DS1 to write out this morning), a card from one of my 4 sisters and one from MIL.

And some (I am sure very well meaning, and gratefully recieved, and I am not moaning about this bit!) 'happy birthday' messages on FB.

That is a bit underwhelming.

Maybe there is a big surprise in the offing?

Nope.

He actually had this afternoon booked off for DS1's sport's day today, but alas DS1 is not feeling well so is off school, rang DH this morning to tell him DS1 was bad, and he said "Oh right, do I still need to come home then? "No" says I thinking you better bloody well had, and he says "Oh good, I'll take tomorrow afternoon off for the football instead then"

I only asked for a pair of slippers. (Yes I did say 27, not 67, we've just moved into a new house and it's all hard floors, I have cold feet at the best of times, but I don't think they've been warm once since we moved)

YANBU. I had my 30th recently and was surprisingly underwhelmed. I even bought and paid for my own present (out of the joint account). Couldn't go out and celebrate due to bf-ing DD2. Maybe if we start dropping hints now we'll get a better deal next year?!

YANBU.

Happy Birthday though, perhaps you should mention to him that it's a bit crap to not make a bit of an effort...if I was you I'd text him and say he'd better be bringing a bunch of flowers home from work for you, otherwise you'll be rather upset! Hopefully he'll take the hint.

YANBU Natalie - I have a DH just like yours. Mine is king of the Asda As They Are About To Close Presents. Like a child's necklace he grabbed once in his haste.

It's my 40th in September and I'm trying to steer him towards finding a venue for a party but he just doesn't seem to get birthdays, Christmas etc.

Thank you everyone

Thing is, he does it every year, every year there is little or no effort and every year we'll get into bed and he says "Sorry Nat, been a bit of a crappy birthday hasn't it?" every single bloody year!

I'm not expecting grand gestures and diamonds (well that would be rather lovely, but...), oh I don't know, I do make a big effort on his birthday, and I've never got into bed at the end of his day and feel like I need to apologise for it, and if that ever does happen, I'd make damn sure that I'd not let it happen again.

Now I am back to feeling like a 5 year old, whinging that no one got me a barbie or whatever.

I go several extra miles for DH's birthday/father's day etc. Ordering surprise presents from ebay & amazon and hiding the order so he doesn't see it, looking out things I know he'd really like. This is on top of the 'main' present he's said he wants.
For my birthday I get a couple of weeks of 'what do you want for your birthday then'. I say a couple of things I might quite like. And then that's exactly what I get.
His father's day gifts this year cost over £100. His birthday, over £200. For mother's day I got the Glee CD, a photo frame & small ornament and 2 buttered crumpets in bed.
I shouldn't get upset over it. I'm not a material person. I don't like jewellery, perfume, make up, clothes. But a little thought now and again might be nice. Even if it's just a box of nice chocs, some flowers or something.

Happy birthday, sorry it's been crap. Maybe you can get the dcs on board with some help for dh next year? (I know- you shouldn't have to). Your birthday is your special day and he should make you feel special

Iklboo, exactly the same here. Would loe to say I'm not going to bother this year,, but I know I will, plus it's his 40th, plus of course if I don't then he has perfect excuse at the ready next year...

Thanks Lazarusb, TBH, don't think it would make any difference, the intention is always there for him to do something, he actually started asking me in April what I wanted this year, all I said all along was first of all a bottle of Licor 43 (it's a spanish drink, can be tricky to get hold of, so is my treat every now and then) and then once we'd moved and my feet were cold, I'd changed it to slippers.

I have worked my arse off in the last 12 months, I have learnt to drive and passed my driving test, moved house twice, very much nearly completed a diploma course and have started making plans to start my own business, all while having the kids day in, day out, barr the time spent learning to drive and my test, I have had a total of 13 hours without them, 13 hours, in a over a year because I can't remeber the last time before my last birthday I hadn't had them.

Is a pair of slippers really too much to ask for?!

And when he get's in tonight, and he's at it 'what's wrong, you seem a bit grumpy?', he'll actually have no idea what is wrong!

Annnnnd, oh my goodness me I am a 5 year old grump!

I was 30 on sunday, i got 2 cards and a melted chocolate cake which was eaten by my friends. My brother bought me a cd and a £30 bottle of champagne! I know we don't have a lot of money at the mo but something would have been nice.

So, no. YANBU

Glad he got something in the end though!
