ok, its a luxury i know.

we have a 6yr+ old dishwasher. for the last 18months its been repaired countless times, and is probably on its last legs. on sunday it stopped working again. so dh ordered a new one yesterday which is due to be delivered today.

i was just on the phone to my dad, and he reminded that last time the dishwasher did this, all we had to do was tip it on its side. so before i disconnected it, i did. and now it works.

but now i have a disconnected dishwasher, and its sitting in my hall.

dh is at work and will tell him when he gets in, thats it now working.

but i still want the shiney new dishwasher.

I can sympathise, I would love a new car even though mine is just fin....but I bet the novelty will wear off fairly quickly.

btw, can i use the fact dh is immune suppressed and the dishwasher is safer hygiene wise for this argument?

I'd cancel the new one but I can't afford to spend money on things unless absolutely necessary. If not, then you could ebay the old one or put it on freeads or preloved to get a little bit of extra money for it. Our dishwasher and washing machine occasionally pack in due to limescale build up so I run an empty wash with some limescale remover tablets the Hotpoint engineer gave us last time he came to 'fix' a problem which turned out to be limescale

thing is, we can afford it. we dont own a car, walk everywhere etc, and dh got a discount as he ordered it from his work chain (he works for co-op)

will see what dh says when he gets back in half an hour.

but i think he is also fed up of the old one breaking down constantly.

would people on freecycle want a dishwasher that has to be tipped to a 45 deggree angle on its side every 6months or so?

That was the right choice. Someone else benefits, you get the shiny new one. Everyone wins!

The old one is on the way out - if it's been repaired "countless times" in past 18 months, it's going to go again soon and is probably not very efficient in terms of energy use and water consumption compaired to a new one (technology has moved on in the past 6 years, and also it's insides are probably all furred up anyway).

So have the nice shiny new one if the money is not a problem !

Donate the old on to someone who'd make use of it until it does die.
