AIBU?

To tell everyone that the cake is supposed to be like that...

Am due at a birthday party for an elderly relative and promised to bake a cake (it's a huge bash, lots of people bringing cakes). All of my in-laws are super at baking, and I'm not.

Have slaved away all morning so far and produced a chocolate sandwich cake. Just cooled it and tried to cut it in half and it's still all runny in the middle. No time to bake it again, so I just iced it.

I am planning on pretending that this is how it is supposed to be!

AIBU? Will I get found out? Should I just throw it away and apologise for not baking? Buying is not an option - they would Know. Baking again is also not an option.

Tell them its a chocolate fudge cake. Just smother in decent 'frosting' and take along. It'll probably just be nice and squidgy. Good luck!

Can you not just put in the oven for a little longer to cook the middle?

Or buy a plain cake & ice/decorate it?

LadyintheRadiator - they would know I was lying because it would look and taste like a cake! Mine are always burnt, lopsided, half iced because I ran out of stuff, etc etc.

I'm hoping no-one will even try it, based on past experience.

I could say it's a traditional English Cricket Cake.

Looks good, quite rich, bit wet and always collapses.

Cut out the middle and fill the hole with whipped cream and maybe strawberries. Good luck!

i agree...cut out the middle, fill it with strawberries and raspberries and call it a summer chocolate pudding cake or something!

oh, and sprinkle icing sugar over the top too...make it look posh!

Leave it as it is. Trip over on the way in and drop the cake and cry about how long you spent baking the fecking thing.

I like how your mind works!

Have drilled a hole in the middle and scooped out most of the goo and ate it threw it away. The rest of the goo I will say is fondant :P
