AIBU?

To not replace the dcs wetsuits this year but buy 1 for dp and I instead?

They're 6,6 and 5 and every year I make sure they're kitted out (we spend a lot of time on the beach Devon and Cornwall). My dc have long torsos so grow out of them quick and as they're all pretty much the same side it's 3 in 1 hit.

Anyhow last year they winged about the neck bit choking them, then within half an hour of getting wet stripped them off. They'd rather go blue than wear them.

They're bulky and not cheap either and I'm fed up with carting them everywhere only for them not to be worn for very long.

Dp and I don't like freezing our arses off so have been very and would love 1 each (thunder thighs humiliation aside).

So what do you think?

No not a t all, I wouldn't bother if they are just for keeping them warm. Have you thought about getting them the wet suit type tops or just a long sleeve t shirt instead?

Get yourselves one each - you will wear them AND they will last more than a year...or try ebay for replacements for them and selling the old ones.

They run round so much at thet age anyway and will let you know if they are cold.

Treat yourselves to some nice ones! Tbh, the only wetsuits that are suitable for frequent wear are the more expensive ones, and as kids grow out of them so quickly there's no point buying the more expensive gear until they're older!

Though if you do go for them again, make sure you pick up some rash vests, they'll help with the neck!

look on ebay for the children - everyone must have this problem. I'm about to put some on myself after buying them every year for the last 5 years. I treated myself to one a few years ago and it's great. Was a good buy.

Decathlon do cheap ones for DCs, and loads of other stuff. God I love that shop

ohno: a rash vest is a water-sports shirt that is tight fitting and made of a different fabric to normal t-shirts I think I own more rashies than I do normal tees!

I managed to find two rashies in TK Maxx about a month ago! Both O Neill, last season, one short sleeve and one long for £20. My local paddlesports shop gave me a good deal on mixed-brands ones as I brought 4 or 5 at once too so that might be worth looking at, and wetsuits stocked at paddlesports shops tend to be the looser and more flexible ones.

Actually, surely bunging one or two long sleeved rashies on the kids would be all right as you'll be in Devon and Cornwall? (Nice weather and all that!)

There is one outlet, in Croyde, where you can trade in your kids' outgrown wetsuits, though only if you bought them there. sorry, can't remember its name, except it's on the road to the beach.

little pink shop -hmm I reckon that's where you mean - but a lot do if they're asked - especially the hire shops - try the ones right by the beach
