i started another thread yesterday about how ive decided to go organic with my hair and skincare products due to all the chemicals in particular sodium laureth sulphate

i have very thin bad condition hair so this is where im focusing first finding a decent organic shampoo that doesn't contain this chemical

anyway, £4.50 later i bought an organic shampoo from Holland and Barretts. checked the ingredients etc the brand is called Australian Organics.

ive just used it - it was quite nice actually. was relaxing in the bath and browsed the ingredients again and it says TEA lauryl sulphate (coconut derived)

is this just as bad as normal sodium laurel sulphate and Laureth sulphate??

im so pissed off cos feel like ive chucked away £4.50 on a product i thought was organic. Please tell me that this is not a harmful chemical.....

I'm afraid I've got bad news.

All shampoos are made from chemicals.

In fact, everything in the entire world is made from chemicals.

fyi, because "organics" is in the title, doesn't mean that it is actually all organic. It doesn't even have to have any organic ingredients. I remember learning that the hard way when I first went organic.

PS. for a decent hair wash you could always use bicarb, it's completely natural, you know where it comes from and it costs pretty much nothing. I use it all the time on me and my dc's hair, it's pretty good.

if you really want to have control on ingredient, use your own recipe. It's a bit of a faff, but dirt cheap in comparison, and no risk of hidden preservatives.

the term "organic" is no more than a marketing ploy most of the time. It is just a way of getting people to pay over the odds for commodities.

I work in an industry which provides me with inside information on such things and I never buy organic food or products for my baby who I love more than life itself.

Organic fords are produced using a smaller range of chemical pesticides but some of these have actually got worse toxicity profiles than conventional pesticides.

No beauty products or cosmetics are really organic - they are all made of chemicals.

but as parakeet says, everything is made from chemicals.
