To think abusive parents should bear the blame

Children who have been in the media recently and have comitted horrific crimes against other children, (the Bulger case, The two boys in Doncaster are the two that spring to mind)have all come from horrific homes where they have witnessed and been subjected to violence on a daily basis and watched hardcore porn.

The behaviour they displayed has surely been learnt from the adults responsible for them. Does anyone agree with me when i think that not only should the children be sent away and rehabilitated, the parents should also serve an equal jail sentence for severe neglect.

YANBU at all . I would add that these parents and the ones who have killed their DCs (the baby p case for example ) should be sterilised.

The crazy policy of allowing DCs to be born to these abusive people should be stopped.

Children have the right to a proper decent family life where they are loved and cared properly for.

Yes threeblondeboys it is a vicious cycle which could be stopped by sterilising them.it wouldn't cost much.!

Does anyone know if anything did happen to the parents?

Erm they would be able to afford it, if they cut stupid things, and pay themselves less they get enough money off people in this country, and if they kick out all illegals and stop wasting money, maybe they could sort this scumhole country out and its residents

The parents who are responsible for killing and or abusing their children.

The rights of parents to do that takes precedent over the rights of DCs to a decent upbringing then?

the Doncaster boys were in care of foster parents....so do they get sterilised and put in prison too then?

yes the cildren, the parents, the grandparents and yes even adam and eve... perhaps the best way to break the cycle is with focusing in the children and ensuring they don't go back to live in such environment?

But who determines who should be 'sterilsied' as you put it? How do we predict who will become dodgy parents, and on what grounds? You enter onto very dodgy ground when you start talking about these things, much is subjective and leaves everyone open to abuses of power. Think it through.

I don't think they should be sterilized (well, I wouldn't mind it certainly but that's a very slippery slope) however I do feel that any other children they produce should be removed from their care.

That goes for the woman who brought her 5 yr old to the midnight showing of 'the Crazies' at the movie theater where I work last Saturday. (eye roll)

We have just had this.

Anyway.

Parents are prosecuted for abusing their children, surely? There are laws in place to stop people, including parents, abusing children.

We don't need more laws or sterilisation, we need better application of the ones we already have.

Would it be foolish of me to point out that forcibly performing a surgical procedure on someone, no matter what good intentions are behind it, is ethically and morally wrong?

Not to mention the issues of detecting abusive parents - how about we just put cameras into everyone's home? That'll sort it, eh?

I do not want to live in the kind of society that employs forcible sterilisation and other such delights. It smacks of fascism to me.

Removed from their care at birth into stable, loving adoptive homes where they will not be abused, I meant.
