He's too young, isn't he? Or am I being precious? He's just turned 4.

Watch it yourself, with all the arms being ripped off, the blood and crunching and waiting to be eaten. major peril.
We loved it, but my DS was 9 before he watched it. So, you are being a good mother in my opinion.

I did let my 4 year old watch it. The first time i told him it might be a bit scary and horrible and watched it with him. i warned him when scary bits were coming up so he could not look, and we watched from under a blanket.

He doesn't seem to be frightened by it at all. He now 5.5 and knows not to watch it when his little brother is around.

I understand your concerns. I had them too. I guess it depends on the child.

depends on the child my youngest who's now 14 used to watch it at 5 with her elder sister she thought scary films where funny.Strange child.

DD watches it, she is nearly 5

The only awful bit is the man being eaten when he is hiding in the toilet. DD knows it is coming and doesn't look

the man being eaten while sitting on the toilet is the only really graphic part. the rest is fairly tame. the gore is mostly left to the imagination.

Trouble is, some children have very vivid imaginations!

Every time I see your name I want to google dragon butter....

I agree it depends on the child. My son found the man having his arm ripped off at the beginning scary, because you didn't see what was doing the damage. Being stalked by velociraptors in the kitchen was a ff bit for a while too.

YANBU. I brought my son when he was 6-ish. He was really scared and hiding underneath a jacket for a lot of it. I asked him several times if he would like us to just leave and he insisted on staying. But it even scared me a bit in some parts.

There are other dinosaur films.
What about land before time?
or Walking with Dinosaurs the BBC thingy. I haven't seen it though so don't know how gory it is.

on saying that my DDs watched it at 4 and 5 they were not scared at all!?!...I was a bit jumpy when I first watched it

Goblinchild - thats the bit that sticks with me.

He's very into dinosaurs at the moment. Has seen clips of dinosaurs eating dinosaurs, and seems ok with that... DP thinks I'm being soft

I had horrible nightmares when I watched it so won't be encouraging DC to watch it!

Ds1 watched it when it was first released. He was 7 and had bad dreams for at least 6 months afterwards. It was at the cinema though, I shouldn't imagine it gets you as much on DVD.

Have to say, DS was fine with jurassic park, he loved it. but was absolutely terrified by the t-rex thing at the natural history museum.

Report
Goblinchild · 13/03/2010 10:08

Because of their curiosity about dragonbutter?
Or not using their own judgment about what films to show their children?

BattyKoda · 13/03/2010 10:09

bubblagirl - he watches those all the time!
