AIBU?

Fresh lovely new tarmac smell - almost orgasmic?

They are resurfacing our roads. Not only did I get hours of free childcare as the DC watched out of the window, I also almost swooned at the smell whenever we went out today.

I am reasonable, right?

no

You are entirely reasonable. I go into Boots even if I don't need anything, purely to sniff the T-gel. And yesterday dp told me off for sitting on a train sniffing the newspaper. I sniff hot-water bottles and whoopy cushions too and love the smell of cheap shoe shops (never buy anything: just sniff!).

You're a very strange lady.

What is it that is so good.

Is it the 'tar' or the 'mac'?

YABU
tarmac smell is vile and makes me feel like I am inhaling noxious, offensive chemicals into my lungs.

Disgusting.

And I suppose you like the smell of petrol

Urgh! Pew! Yuck! Gah!

I've got to go and sniff something truly lovely now, like chocolate, to get these ghastly smell-memories out of my head.

BLeurgh!

I may just have to eat the chocolate.

I don't suppose any of you girls have read Rant by Chuck Palahniuk? In the book, Buster "Rant" Casey eats tar and gets off and being bitten by venomous animals. That creosote is just a gateway drug for tarantula and snake bite.

Lol. I have felt very tempted to eat Tarmac but have managed to (just) resist, so far.

I haven't yet read Rant but it's on my 'to read' shelf.

I loved 'Choke'

I agree with OP, I love the smell of tar, always have done. I put the car window down when driving past roadworks.

I love the smell of those Crocs shoes... when they're new whatever they're made of is an intoxicating smell. Sometimes I linger by the display in shoe shops and inhale deeply [weirdo emoticon]

Yes to tarmac, yes to creosote, and petrol was only during pregnancy..

My friend had a real thing for the smell of tarmac when she was pregnant, it almost put her in a trance. They were resurfacing outside her house and her DH had do go out and steer her gently back indoors on more than one occasion, when she'd been lured out whilst on her way to the kitchen!
