AIBU?

to wonder why pregnant celebrities don't appear to be allowed to be seen on screen

Dannii Minogue is being replaced as a judge on X Factor because she is pregnant.

Now I hear that Denise van Outen is being replaced from her BBC show - because she is pregnant.

Why do the normal employment laws not apply to onscreen talent?

It might be their choice though. Holly Willouby was heavily pregnant last year on Dancing on Ice but had her baby when it finished. Danni Minogue's baby must be due about the same time as the next series of X Factor starts so she might not be able to continue for practical reasons.

IS it perhaps the celebrities' choice? Maybe they don't want to work those particular hours (late and long, for all I know), maybe they don't want the tabloids publishing the most unflattering pictures they can get of their bumps, maybe they can afford to have the whole of their pregnancy as maternity leave?

The media response has been 'well of course Dannii has to be replaced - she's pregnant'. There doesn't seem to be any questioning of this assumption.

It seems as though pg women can't appear on screen in a 'glamorous' role.

But you can bet your arse they'll be forced back at 2m post-natal and if they're not wearing a bodycon dress there'll be HELL TO PAY.

Danii has to be replaced - not so much because she's pregnant - but because of what a pregnancy implies, i.e. a baby, which is due just before the X Factor starts.

I really don't think it's the pregnancy per se, but that she'll have a newborn to look after.

I don't agree. I thought it was very refreshing to see Holly Willoughby last year, she was quite large but looked lovely and glamorous.

Thought this was going to be about the use of secret surrogates...

I think Dannii resigned.

Denise Van Outen is a different case. If she wanted to do it, it is awful they are replacing her.

There are loads of pregnany celebs all over the place. Wasn't whatsherface Davina pregnant for like every series of BB? And the blondie presenter of Strictly, and the blondie presenter on the Ice, and the blondie presenter on the sunday morning bbc show, and the blondie presenter on (seeing a theme here?)the news, and the weather...and well, loads really.

Dannii is planning to have her baby in Australia but she is due shortly after filming for the new series of X-Factor starts.

Sara Cox was on This Morning yesterday looking lovely, she said she was due in the next month...she described her outfit as shoplifting French Maid I think

I think the Denise Van Outen story is a load of DM hogwash.

Its a new show with all new judges - John Barrowman has also been replaced and as far as I know he's not pregnant .
