AIBU?

To cringe whenever I read my neices Facebook comments?

My neice is 14 and has added me to her Facebook friends. I sometimes read the comments between her and her friends and just cringe! I cannot remember being so ... annoying at that age!

Here are a few examples:

"OMG i am sooooo depresed rite now cos everyfing is goin rong and i jst wnt 2 kill myself :-(("

(followed up by dozens of replies from friends: "dnt do nefing silly cos i lve u babe, soz ur feeling crap :-(((" and "omg me too, i feel so shit, why is lyfe so hard? :-(( )

And then we have the daily:

"i am so fed up of being fat and ugly. i swear im like the fattest and ugliest girl in my skool and im sick of it all, im such a freak and i really hate myself rite now"

(followed by "omg hun u are soooo not ugly! u r like the prettiest girl in the entire skool!" and "u r not coz I am the fattest and ugliest girl in skool, i wish i looked like u" )

(the girls then post photos of themselves, all size 0, bag of bones types in skinny jeans and tiny crop tops)

and then there was this:

"omg i luv rick so much, he means everyfing 2 me and hes like the most important person in my life and hes the only one that understands me, i luv him so much. we will b 2gefer 4 eva xxxxxxxxxxxxx"

(followed by "i understand u 2 babez but i no wot u mean, u 2 r prfct 4 each other, such a cute couple")

She then posts a pic of said couple ... my neice standing with a gelled haired 14 year old boy who probably cares more about what's on TV than he does about her!

Her and her friends have also got into the habit of saying that their boyfriends "own them".

So on various pics you will see "this is me outside mcdonalds, owned by rick 4eva" and "josh owns this" on a pic of a girl.

god it just makes me cringe! is it just my neice and her friends because I know other 14 year olds who would NEVER talk like this!

Ah, they're alright! The 'owned' thing is a bit stupid, but I think you've forgotten how dramatic everything feels when you're a teenager...
You're cringing half as much as they will be when they're reminded of it when they're sophisticated 25 year olds...

Oh I can't stop reading it now! we're half way through a drama between 2 girls and 1 boy. All published word for word over facebook of course. I need to know what happens next!

Unfortunately that is fairly normal teen speak I think, well from what I see of my sister and her friends.

It is bloody annoying and pathetic though!

Don't read it, or take it all with a pinch of salt. It's just their way.

Take screen shots & read them out later at a graduation party wedding congrats-on-becoming-a-partner-at-a-really-swanky-law-firm-party (delete as appropriate). I used to write letters to my best friend when I was a teenager. Happily neither of us kept their end of the correspondence. I'm sure I would be cringing now!

Lol reminds me of my SIL (she is 13). Very annoying and not even any juicy gossip, lol!

I did actually find an old email account from school the other day though I wasn't quite that bad but it was a bit embarrassing! I always knew how to write in full English sentences though, just never bothered in emails etc. I am quite glad facebook wasn't invented then, I think!

I'm so pleased facebook wasn't around when I was a teenager. I can brush my gruesome/geeky teenage years under the carpet .

Lewis, she doesn't really think she's fat and ugly, it's all for attention. She knows she's pretty, a few days after that one she wrote one saying "mite b starting moddling vry soon if mum can pay 4 my portfolio xxxxxxxxxx"

so she knows she looks good! as do the others, or they wouldn't be posing in skimpy outfits and spreading it all over facebook lol

I read my diary from age 12-13 when I was home at the weekend and it was hilarious, and I was just as annoying and I bet you were too!

another example (yet again!) of how crap facebook is. why read it in the first place? there's some things about your relatives you just don't want to know!
