just phoned the doctors to get the results of my pregnancy test which I knew was positive but doc wanted to confirm and to be told that I need to have a telephone consultation with the doctor before I can have my midwife appointment. Now when i went to the doctors last week for the test he told me if it came back positive then just to go directly to my midwife.

The background here is that I had a stillborn in December so know that this isn't standard practise for this surgery. Although one part of me is thinking it is because of what has happened in my past and another part of me is panicking in case there is something more serious to it.

I feel sick with worry. Have phoned the midwife to speak to her about it but she's out and will phone back later. AIBU and panicking for nothing?

Hey, relax. This almost certainly is related to your loss in December - it may be that your GP wants to talk to you about some counselling, or additional services like this which may be available to you through your pregnancy.
You'll be reyt....and congratulations.

Have just read my op back and I sound like a complete paranoid nutter god I hope I'm not like this through the whole pregnancy!

Thanks minouminou - think I just needed someone else to tell me not to go into a panic!

You are COMPLETELY reasonable- I blardy hate those vague 'we need you to come in' type calls, they are designed to cause maximum panic ... but I would be really confident that it will be to do with your previous baby. I guess they would want to offer you additional support. Being logical, I suspect that if there was anything to worry about they'd call you in rather than doing it over the phone.

Congratulations

And, further to funny's post, they'd suggest that you and your partner went together.
Think logically - you've only just found out you're pregnant....what test or diagnosis could they have made/done/do for anything at this stage?

Hi congratulations. Agree with minouminou and funnypeculiar, it will probably be some sort of administration call or to offer support. Try not to panic. Everything is fine.

Thinking back to the early days of my pregnancy, i remember the midwife, GP and sonographer making a bit of additional fuss because i'd had a miscarriage (12 weeks) ten years before, and had mentioned a few nerves, so i can only imagine there'd be a bigger fuss for you.
Maybe hoick yourself over to the pregnancy board, as there's bound to be people over there who have more 1st hand experience, and can reassure you further.

I'm sure everything will be fine, my first son died when he was two hours old(born at 26 weeks) My gp was fab and my gynae saw me fortnightly.

The test they will use to test for pregnancy will be specific only for pregnancy. So, firstly CONGRATULATIONS, secondly, don't worry. It might well be procedure now - i took myself and a very shocked DP to the doctors when i found out i was pregnant, he then said to make a midwives appointment. So may well be the same procedure around here. Probably ticks all the boxes etc.

Very sorry for your loss in december

When I had my booking in with ds1 I was in the same room where they told me they couldn't find a heartbeat during the previous pregnancy. I was 10 weeks, and started getting really upset. So they brought in the portable scanner to reassure me. I was under the consultant as I was 42 and each month when I saw him he got out the portable scanner to 'have a look at junior'. I also had a 'full scan' at 12 weeks even though they didn't do dating scans in my area then. I thought this was routine till I started meeting other mums and they just had a 20 week scan.
It will be because of your previous loss to keep an eye on you - both for your own reassurance and to get the earliest possible warning of anything going wrong this time.
Don't worry its not like when the boss calls you in and you think you are going to be sacked!

Thanks everyone - have spoken to the midwife and she said the doctor is just being extra careful after losing Finn and its nothing to worry about at all - he'll just want to dot the i's and cross the t's. She's made an appointment for me to go in and see her on Friday afternoon to get the ball rolling with regards to all other tests and scans.

Thanks for calming me down, just had a moment of pure fear which I'm sure I'm going to encounter alot throughout this pregnancy!

Good! Now get yourself over to the ante-natal topics that is where you belong now
