I never watched it when it was actually on. I am currently re-watching to distract myself from various irritating and tedious things going on in RL. I love it, I think it's brilliant. I especially love how they write the women as being pretty much as physically strong as men (and able to beat men at boxing), but without bothering to explain the details of it. And I love the religion side of it.

But here's what bugs me:

  1. How does Adama never cotton on that his son is in love with Kara? I know he's not the most perceptive father, but come on!

  2. Why do they never replace the glass panel in the control room with something non-shattering after the first, oh, hundred times it breaks?

  3. What the fuck is meant to be going on with Lampkin and his (very dead) cat?

    Thank you. Smile

Hang on, I'll get DH........

Oddly those three never bothered me, but the one that really bugged me was Adama running the shower in the background while writing at his desk.

I mean come on! On a spaceship? Surely water is precious and wasting would go against the very fibre of someone like him who had spent most of his time on one?

Didn't they have an amazing water recycling thingy. Like 99.9% or something. So no water was ever wasted.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 31/08/2014 19:52

Oh, that's a good point, liara. And aren't they rationing water at some point, too (or did I dream that)?

It do think it must have been one of the most bonkers things to film - imagine sitting in one of those ships and trying not to feel an utter twat.

DH, who is a very literal man, has just replied thusly....

  1. Because it is a good plot device
  2. Because it is a good plot device
  3. Not a clue....

I shall now kill him dead for you.

Wasn't the water rationing because other ships ran out of water so they had to share?

It's been ages since I watched it so can't remember all the little details.

I'm with never will ask DH... Apparently Adama is blinded by Kara's relationship with other son so he can't notice new relationship, plus as son has died and this changes Kara's role so he sees her as own daughter? He agrees re glass and can't remember cat... My dd has a 'viper' tshirt - DH is most pleased!

I used to watch it with DH. It was a totally bonkers series.
I detested the Cylon that had her claws into Balthazar and I thought he needed a good slapping.

Mmm, yes, you might have to, never.

And it's not a good plot device! Well, 2 arguably is. The first one is just kind of odd.

I love Edward James Olmos as an actor (though I am kind of disturbed his wives get younger and younger), but I can't get to the bottom of his character there at all.

My question is why Mr Moral (Lee Adama) had little problem with cheating on his wife? Where were your morals then Apollo?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 31/08/2014 19:57

myrtle - yeah, but you'd kinda think even the most unaware parent would cotton on eventually.

never - yes, it is absolutely bonkers. I really can't stand Baltar, but he is a good actor, I guess.

I am now trying to remember that much detail from the series. Clearly it's time I bought the whole lot and revisit it to answer you :-)
Did you hear the parody song 'new crew in town'

oO - yeeeeeah, that's not exactly moral. Are we meant to think he's a bit of a dickhead? I can never make my mind up.

Wasn't the cat to do with his dead wife or something? The love thing I think he just thought it was platonic love like between siblings.

Loved it and now toying with the idea of having another baby so can re watch it all on mat. leave based solely on this thread reminding me about it.

I though Lee was just annoying but loved Balter when ever he had a 'surely no one is going to believe me this time' moment. Which seemed to be at least 10 times an episode.

Grin Not in the slightest, jenny, but you might have to get in the queue.

Mmmm. Smile

karron - yes, I think I remember dead wife reference. Just never quite 'got' it.

I guess were meant to see him as a good guy but with failings like the rest of us.

But it annoys me.

His character was all about making the right/good(?) choices even when they were hard. He was the one to say Baltar should be forgiven his sins as everyone else had been pardoned and he deserved the same. Even though Baltars sins were so much worse than anyone's.

Then he ruined it by being a dick regarding relationships.

I know, I know, only human, makes mistakes. Still annoys me though.

We loved it to bits and had many a conversation trying to read things into it - religion, politics, mythology etc. Gaius and his weird Jesus cult thing with all the ladies. It was the Hero/Boomer etc storyline that I think got me the most.

Still have no real idea what the fuck happened at the end, but I enjoyed it so much I didn't care.

OP have you finished it? Don't want to make spoilerific comments.

It was the first boxset DH and I watched when we got married. I looooove it.

Our cats are named Kara Thrace and Laura Roslin.

I was a bit right about the water but had forgotten loads.

Galactic a has near perfect recycling so wouldn't run out. But bomb blew a big hole in the tank and they lost most of their reserves. So they and the other ships were running out. Hence rationing. They then had to find a nice planet or something, my memory gives up at this point. But they must have filled their tanks again so running showers would no longer be an issue. Wink
