Just moved and think we have a child sex offender next door. Can I request information from police?

Hi all, We just moved house and over the past few weeks I noticed the man next door has some form of behaviour/mental health problem. He repeats the same actions obsessively - locking his front door, cleaning his windows for example. He lives alone and seems pleasant if a bit lonely. He usually says hello but sometimes appears shifty or even stand offish. I've just heard on the local grapevine that he was caught last year exposing himself to school children from his living room window. I don't know the details, just that the local school and police were involved. I don't believe it was taken further and it may have even been inadvertent. He went away for a month then came back and everything returned to normal as far as I know. I have small children. If he does have a history of child sex offences I would like to know. My children walk past his window every day. At the same time I want to be careful not to over react - this may not have been what it seemed and I have heard this information second hand. I don't have my neighbours name only his address. Can I request information from our local police in regards to any history he may have?
