AIBU?

To think some people are overreacting about the new mobile site?

I appreciate it is not perfect but I think some posters are being a tad over zealous in their criticism. Someone, probably some people, spent a lot of time working on the layout, and whilst I am sure they appreciate some of the feedback, it can't be pleasant to have tons of posters writing about how awful it is/ how much they hate it/ how they think it's ruined MN for them because they simply HAVE to be able to customise their view in a particular way.

It's a different website layout that doesn't work as well for you - in the big scale of things, how serious a problem can that be?

Enough of one to complain about? Sometimes "new improved recipe" isn't better for the consumer.

Stratter5 · 20/08/2014 23:20

I don't like it.

I really don't like it. I have no intention of getting used to it, I'm stickum with the Desktop version. You know where you are with Desktop.

wowfudge · 20/08/2014 23:22

My first Biscuit for you my dear. Actually I'm not sure it is - I'm all giddy from reading the Monsoon button thread. Surely these things should be tested? I mean the new layout, not the Monsoon buttons.

In design and marketing, etc you expect feedback. I doubt the designers are crying about this OP. Man now looks terrible on a phone - it all looks the same, you can't change pages in a thread without scrolling to the bottom, the features that make navigating easier have gone. YABU.

wowfudge · 20/08/2014 23:23

Not Man - MN!

Branleuse · 20/08/2014 23:24

i like it

HeySoulSister · 20/08/2014 23:26

Yabu

Who are you to say what we should complain about?

wowfudge · 20/08/2014 23:27

Each to their own - MN went funny on me a couple of days ago and I thought it was an iPhone issue. I know think they were testing this hideousness!

FastWindow · 20/08/2014 23:29

The look and feel is gone. It's not even similar, it reminds me of changing to Windows 2013 on the advice of my IT dept due to some issue I had. Boy did I change back to 2010 quick.

This new MN looks like Beta. As does 2013.

Too simple looking, like a five year old said 'I like how it looked in 1994'

Sorry.

isshoes · 20/08/2014 23:29

Still think some of the comments are overreactions. It's ok to not like something. It's ok to say so. But a number of the comments are overly critical for something that is free to use.

I'm sure the designers aren't in tears over it, but I know if I had worked hard on something and was excited about its launch, I would be pretty gutted to hear it was so poor it had ruined someone's evening.

Also it was tested in beta.

Usability is king, it really is. It's not a trivial matter at all - you can design something as carefully as you like, but if it doesn't work for your users...it doesn't work. And you can only really tell by giving it to real users.

Good designers/developers want feedback. I'm sure there'll be a lot of careful combing through threads for feedback.

isshoes · 20/08/2014 23:30

Soulsister - er, same to you?

OP posts:
Fav · 20/08/2014 23:31

If posters don't give their honest feedback though, mnhq won't know which parts to tweak.

I thought it was ok, but have gone back to desktop because it's easier to get around, I can customise colours and I can hide threads in active. (To be fair, you may be able to do these things in the new version, but I couldn't find out how)

isshoes · 20/08/2014 23:31

Yes I know they want feedback. And feedback is fine. But there is too much hysteria if you ask me.

OP posts:
HeySoulSister · 20/08/2014 23:34

I can and will complain... If I want to. Tough if YOU feel people are overreacting. We should stay quiet to protect the feelings of the developers??? Lol

ElephantsNeverForgive · 20/08/2014 23:35

I don't like the font (I don't like non serif fonts) and I don't like the wide bar at the bottom, because I'm on ISO7 and that bounces a new page, back etc bar up as well, so scrolling gets very jumpy.

MysteriousCircusZebra · 20/08/2014 23:38

Yes I know they want feedback. And feedback is fine. But there is too much hysteria if you ask me.

Did anyone ask you then? Confused

isshoes · 20/08/2014 23:39

You sound like fun Soulsister. Guess what - I can complain about your complaints too! Lol

I don't like some of the features either. I don't like that I can't see all of the OPs posts highlighted. But I am not going to quit MN over it.

isshoes · 20/08/2014 23:39

Zebra - that's a fairly common turn of phrase in my language.

Fairylea · 20/08/2014 23:41

Well I fucking hate it. But I'm a moody old sod so I guess I'll learn to get on with it Smile

heraldgerald · 20/08/2014 23:41

i think its perfectly reasonable to want to have a 'customise' option, as we've always had, and i dont understand why there wouldnt be one now. i dont mind change per se but now the adverts are flashing about, i cant highlight the ops posts, i cant see where i am on the page, i cant see where i've posted - to me, it really does defeat how ive always used mn. the way it currently looks and feels i cant really use it and im annoyed as i love a good bit of mning

isshoes · 20/08/2014 23:42

To me herald, that is reasonable feedback. I am not referring to posts like yours.

OP posts:
HeySoulSister · 20/08/2014 23:43

The only hysteria I'm seeing is from you op

I think it's alright, some people just don't like change. Give it a little while and any niggles will be sorted and everyone will have forgotten all about it.

wobblyweebles · 20/08/2014 23:45

A website should at the basic level display all the posts and allow users to reply. It's not allowing me to do either. if you don't mind I'm going to point out that that's a bit shit.

Wonc · 20/08/2014 23:49

I like it too Smile
