OK so they are not as bad as they could be but it's really annoying me! I've spent about £1000 at the dentist in the past year getting a tooth root canalled and crowned (after getting an abscess which also gave me sinusitis) and replacing a filling and getting another little filling done. The filling which has been replaced is still a bit sensitive to hot/cold a month later which makes me think there's something wrong with it. It is an old filling that has been replaced a couple of times and the dentist thinks I will need RC on that as well at some point. On top of that I've got an impacted wisdom tooth which needs to come out, and which I think is possible shifting my other teeth which is causing the filling to leak...

I don't drink fizzy drinks or fruit juice or eat much sugar (chocolate/cake a couple of times a week). I brush, floss and mouthwash twice a day with all the dentist-recommended kit. And they still go wrong and cost me a fortune! It's like owning an old house with all the maintenance they seem to need. I'm only 27 and I feel my teeth shouldn't need so much doing to them at my age. On the other hand I've got friends who drink gallons of coke, never floss, only bother to get check ups every 3 years and have never had a filling... Envy

Anyone else feel like this?

YANBU. I have to take my teeth into consideration when doing financial planning Smile

Take comfort in the fact that with all the work you're putting in you will probably have great gums when you are older!

Yep, due to genetics (top lateral incisors never formed) I can never eat an apple normally and have to factor in that my Maryland bridge could go at any time and cost a couple of thousand to replace. It's not fair

The enamelly little bastards. Angry

Have the lot yanked out and see how they like that.

I have teeth with naturally weak enamel. So I get cavities easily, despite not drinking sugary drinks or anything bad for my teeth. I've sort of chalked them up as a lost cause.

My husband on the other hand rarely visits the dentist and eats all sorts of junk food and sugar. He gets no cavities. Asshole.

The good news is, they've been drilled and capped so much, I don't think there's very many places left for cavities to form.

Teeth are just strong or weak I think - brother and I had identical diets and dentistry growing up. Now we are both adults and mine are great and he only has 4 left Shock

Glad/sad to see I am not alone. I just dread feeling that ache or sensitivity that says 'Haha! That'll be £500 please!'.

Can you get denplan or similar? I pay £13 a month and given a checkup and hygienist is over £100 I'm saving money that way

I have been thinking about getting denplan. Will yours cover absolutely everything (bar cosmetic stuff) goodasitgets?

Sending sympathy... I think I've had to spend the deposit for a house on dental work, starting from early twenties...

I hope you get a good long settled period soon.

I believe it's pretty much everything - I know lab work isn't included (like making a gum shield)
I think it lists everything on the website

YANBU, I spend a small fortune on mine too, and it's so fucking annoying. Meanwhile DH rarely even brushes his and gets away with it.

I have weak enamel and sensitive skin, apparently they are related?

Sadly my DC1 at 5yo has already cost us a fortune in dentistry. Dentist agrees we have done nothing wrong and it is "just the way teeth are".

You need denplan. I pay £30 a month, covers for everything. The way I figure it, I'd easily pay more than £300 a year if I didn't have it.

Be warned though. When you first sign up, you have to be up to date with dental work ie nothing needs doing. So it may be expensive to sign up in the first place.

Well at the moment nothing needs doing apart from the wretched wisdom tooth, which should be done free on the NHS. I need a GA apparently... As long as that filling doesn't kick off. Grr. Teeth are a liability.

I used to be terrified of the dentist but I've had so much done recently that fear as been replaced by boredom (except the fear of the expense).

You do pay for the lab work for crowns with denplan, I think my crown cost me about 200 but I'm sure so it could have been less. I do love denplan and think it is well worth the monthly cost.

I've had 7 fillings in the last 2 months. On one appointment I had 4 injectionsSad I've had enough....

Now 2 of the fillings have started to hurt, including one at the from which feels like it's now hurting my nose. It never hurt before the last filling. I'm sick of going to the dentists...
