AIBU?

to not give my daughter a lift

to not pick up my daughter this morning from her friend's house? It's a 30 min walk away, or a 3 min drive. She does little or no exercise, and so my insisting on her walking her caused a text row. I just want her to move a bit and not be sat on her backside staring at screens. She's begging me now. ;(

Maker her walk. It won't do her any harm.

Did you drop her off ?

With teenagers I tell them if it's under an hour they walk/cycle but over that I will pick them up.

Get her to walk half way ( or tell her that, then be late so she ends up walking all the way).

And stop texting her, it's not a discussion.

Let her walk - will do her good as you say. Busy yourself doing other things and disengage from the texting.

18?!
She's an adult
I'd tell her to stop sending angry texts or she'll find her stuff packed & by the door when she gets in

Goodness me, she should walk!

YANBU in principle and getting her into the habit of moving more is a really valuable idea.

In terms of today I'd be looking at how hot it is, it's already boiling her and I'd not want to take a 30 minute walk unless I had water / hat with me as I really sensitive to the heat.

I do exercise (martial art so hard work) in the heat before any calls me lazy, just have to make sure I had plenty of fluid

30 minutes is nothing! Its one trip from my house to school, I hardly even get up a sweat let alone struggle with it.

She can & should walk.

Out of interest what's her reasons, is it just that she doesn't want to?

Another one for walking. I don't think the heat is prohibitive - 30 mins at 20/21 degrees is very pleasant!

My dd2 is 10 and her best friend is 20 mins walk away, and she'll walk home easily!

I don't do lifts. Tell her to buy a bike if she doesn't like walking.

I'd be busy, far too busy to hear my phone bleep!

Blimey. As other posters have said, by 18 I was living away from my family and didn't drive. I walked/cycled everywhere or used public transport.
She needs to learn not to depend on you so much. She should definitely walk.
Has she heavy bags to carry?

At 18 I was responsible for getting everywhere on my own. 30 minutes is nothing!

I'm with you OP. At 18 she can walk or pay for a taxi and I'm sorry I don't care how hot it is, it's not too hot to walk 30 mins. She can ask her hosts for a bottle of water if it's that bad.

Although, in my world, I would refuse and then DC's friend's parents would drive them and make me feel terrible.
