To think strangers shouldn't talk to my kids

We're on a canal boat holiday in the midlands, and you moor up on the tow paths. Strangers are walking by with their dogs and engaging in conversation with DD(15), DS(14) and DS(11). I'm annoyed as they haven't a clue who we are and just talk to them as if they can. The kids don't want to stay inside, so they go on the front. The strangers then feel it's okay to talk to them as if they're friends. AIBU to think these strangers should stay away.
