Just that, really. We've all got our windows wide open because it's boiling. WWYD? AIBU to go and knock? And say what? Hmm

Yes Love. DD is in bed so have shut the door so it doesn't go into her room. Sorry to drip feed but when she was a few weeks home DP went and had a word about the weed because it stunk in our living room (somehow seeped through the floor?!) and she came to the door all stoned and begged him not to tell the other neighbours who happen to be a policeman and policewoman. Who actually know about the weed obviously we mentioned it because it either stinks of weed or incense sticks. Hmm

Bree I think that's what I will do!!! Grin Haha! Just wanted to know if I was being precious! Or whether the smell of weed in your house when you aren't 15 anymore is something you should just put up with!

Our neighbour's (adult) son hangs out of his bedroom window to smoke his. I don't like it around the DCs any more than tobacco smoke around them, but I am in a similar position not knowing what to do.

Sorry, no help really.

OooOooTheMonkey · 26/07/2014 20:27

Awkward really, surely she's entitled to do what she wants in her own house and tobacco I would be kind of ok with even though I am an ex smoker and therefore the worst kind of non smoker but weed?

I live next to a student house and there's always someone the other side of the fence puffing away. Doesn't bother me at all, quite pleasant to catch the odd whiff, much better than the smell of a barbecue.

I think that if smoking week in their own home is your neighbours only crime you should perhaps give it a rest

It won't effect your DD

Report
specialsubject · 26/07/2014 20:30

yes, they can do it in their own home.

trouble is that it is stinking out the OPs home.

Report
RiverTam · 26/07/2014 20:32

Unless it's really stinking the house out I wouldn't be bothered (DH is an ex-skunk smoker), students smoke it in the park where I sometimes take DD, they seem mild-mannered enough. Sometimes the smell can be really petrolly, though, which isn't pleasant, but overall the smell is better than fags or BBQ lighter fuel.

I'm sure she would be perfectly reasonable and apologetic I just don't want it to be awkward us living in such close proximity. Maybe I am being pfb about dd! Probably Smile

I'd query that it is 'stinking out' the OP's home
Surely not continuous and only obvs because all windows are open

I was more irritated by my ex ex neighbour who decided she was going to audition for X factor one hot year
'Oops I did it again' 10,000 times at full volume from a tonally challenged foghorn was somewhat trying but I didn't call the police etc
The smell of weed in hot weather is acceptable imo

I have exactly the same problem. My revenge is to get the Dc's to go on a snail hunt and lob release them over the fence to join the party.

Haha Ronald! I think oops i did it again would be worse than the weed!!!!!!

Cigar smoke
Oz or Saffer BBQers - I had this in London..it seemed it was continuous
Wind chimes
Musical instruments
Lovers of Drum and Bass with good stereos

My downstairs neighbour smokes weed too. Yes, it's his flat and he can do what he wants in it (within reason/legal parameters) but it stunk out our flat. In particular the bedroom of our DCs.

We get on well with him and asked if he could smoke in a different part of his flat that wouldn't go up into ours (weird layout) and he does now. Can you just have a pleasant chat with her and work it out that way? Sulking leads to festering and big blow ups. Best to clear the air (ha!).

That's the thing about living in close proximity to other people.

At various times over the years we've all had to put up with bonfires, bbqs, chimneas, cigarette smoke, weed smoke, screaming kids and various nasty cooking smells.

It's something we've kind of learnt to live with in the 20 years we've been here. We're very lucky that our surrounding neighbours are as easy going as we are.

I can't see how the OP would even be tiny bit unreasonable considering it is now bothering her in her home and illegal.

If they were blaring their radio no one would think it was OK to do that would they?

Swings and roundabouts - bet he's really nice and quiet etc in case someone gets annoyed about noise or another infraction and sends round Someone In Authority. Choose your poison, I think.

Report
RonaldMcDonald · 26/07/2014 21:27

Perhaps they can't bear screaming babies or the smell of nappies wafting from hot bins...
I agree with Worra I think it's swings and roundabouts and that you have to be pretty laidback with neighbours to expect the same

I also find the whole 'it's illegal' argument beyond comprehension tbf
At worst I'd imagine that the police will give them a warning or fine them.
Hardly the crime of the century and not really commensurate with the OP being able to smell smoke in their house as they and you have your windows open.
There is endlessly much worse

ithoughtofitfirst · 26/07/2014 21:35

So grim to smoke it in a flat. They must be absolutely baked.

Ronald my baby doesn't scream (neighbour has said on a number of occasions that she's never heard her, we have concrete floors between us) and downstairs stoner's bin stinks to high hell!!!!! Worse than ours and I've taken to spray ours with raid to stop the maggots so that's saying something. Problem over now she's shut her windows now!! Grin
