It's really annoying me - Dog in a house a short distance away barks a lot!

I'm the type of person that gets stressed by things easily so just want to check if ibu on this one.

This morning I was woken be barking at 6.40am

Last night I heard barking after midnight.

The barking early in the morning and late at night is not as frequent ad the barking during the day.

The dog someone's barks for hours on end - about 270 barks an hour (I've counted!). He barks in batches of 10 or 20 barks - then quiet for a few minutes - the minute you begin to enjoy the silence he starts again

I have no problem with a dog barking a reasonable amount - but aibu in thinking this is too much barking?

I think its driving you crazy if you are counting barks it sound excessive id maybe ring the dog warden on monday and complain its an owners responsibility to keep their dog in control it sounds like the dog is either left a lot or shut away/out

Not unreasonable at all. Dogs do tend to bark unfortunately but it is the owners responsibility to control this. Our dog is a real barker (if she sees a cat or something, not constant) but she is brought inside as soon as she barks or if we are all outside we can stop her.
We could never have a dog flap or anything as we know she'd bark all day long if she had the chance.
I think you'd BU if you expected a dog to never bark, but if it's for more than a couple of minutes then you are definitely NBU.

YANBU. Dog barking is a pretty pervasive sound at the best of times, let alone round the clock. Sounds like the neighbours just leave the poor thing outside/alone to get on with it... Not cool.

Where we live there are two gorgeous dogs who spend a lot of time in the garden (also from 6.30 through to 11 or so). One is a barker, one whines/cries - heartbreaking.

Didn't realise you could call a dog warden - will watch this thread with interest.

I don't think YABU - some dogs do bark a lot, but as LePetitPoint says, the owners can and should prevent this from being a nuisance to all around them.

BTW - my council (Richmond) has a nuisance noise department and constant dog-barking is one of the things they list that this could be called for. It might be worth looking on your council's website to see if they do something similar.

YANBU the exact thing happens here and I am wondering if we are neighbours

The local council normally has an online report for this, anonymous if you prefer, as excessive dog barking falls within anti social behaviour.

I reported yesterday after two non stop hours from about 6.40 am and there's been silence today, I wonder if there was a spate of complaints as soon as the council office opened.

I think it depends to be honest, there are so many barking dogs around me that I tend not to notice them anymore and just zone out. It would probably only really bother me if it was preventing me from sleeping at night.

The council won't do anything unless it's really excessive, as apparently dogs have the right to bark or something like that because it's normal dog behaviour.
