AIBU?

to not be made to feel bad that you stole my dd2 toys ?

back story- we went to GOSH today with DD1 for her JIA appointment. I took day off and took both dds as DH had job interview. so after doctors we went for lunch.

we went to Brunswick and ate at Giraffe. DDs went and ran around. then we left after about 2 mins I asked DD2 where were her "doodoos" its a Roo from tescos. she panicked so she ran back.
she met a girl about 6/8 who had 1 on her scooter. DD2 and 1 asked can we have it back about 30s before I got there she said no. I told her it was my DD2s toy so we got it back. I asked her where the other one was and she said her brother had it in the closest shop. we all went in and found it.I asked him where he found it as we has lost it. his mum said "we'll finders keepers"
I felt like going ape shit. but said my DD2 had dropped/ briefly left it and I'm sorry but you can't just steal toys! especially as both children had tied the toy to their scooters like a toy on a lorry!
my DD2 is in a crying melt down as these toys are really important to her and even eBay has no replacements.
I'm sorry but it was within minutes. they a grubby toys. maybe I was frazzled but my Dd1 has to take chemo drugs now for the next 2 years and I was just told.
but AIBU to think you don't steal toys you put them to one side in case someone has dropped / forgotten them??

The mum was very rude. The entitlement of people makes me despair. Of course they should have given them back straight away.
Sorry to hear about your DD. Hope the treatment goes well.

Personally I would have removed it from his scooter myself. screw what the mother said, what a nasty bitch.

In answer to your question if I found left behind toys I would either put them where they would likely be seen or hand them as lost property if there was an appropriate place to do so.

Awful behaviour on the part of that mother. I think I would have had a bit of a melt-down Sad.

Out of order. Wondering if she'd have felt the same if you'd have walked off with her stuff?

Is it the plush bean toy one? If so there might be some on Amazon - £10 though.....

did you get them back?

If not could you post a pic, MN has come up trumps before with things like this.

And YANBU, what a bitch! By her logic, if you waltzed off with her handbag if she left it behind for a second then she would be fine with it as "finders keepers"?

thanks I'm reluctant to take precious sleeping toys out but DD1 needed her Teddy for the doctors and DD2 needed hers to support her sister. I know it was my fault but I was amazed at the audacity of some people.

Just a thought, could you post a picture of the 'Roo' if that is the missing one.

My son had one as a baby and we should still have it around, if it the right one I will send it to you. The one I have is really floppy, designed as a first toy for an infant so has a nearly flat body. Is it that one?

no the toys are some weird flat roo toy by tescos about 5 years ago. I think I bought all the eBay ones a few years ago haven't seen it since and its discontinued by tescos

Bloody hell - what a cheek! My DS has a book out of the library at the moment called 'Hand It Over, Harry' about how you should be honest and NOT STEAL. It's a shame there wasn't a moral code book out when that woman was young .

I think I would have said 'She's about to start a years worth of chemo and she is distraught because your son has taken her toy. Do you really want that karma?'

That's horrible. I would have had a melt down too if that had happened to me and that's without the extra stress you are under.

I hope that mother is on here and is ashamed of herself for her grabby ways.

Finders keepers? She would have found my boot in her arse.

You can now tell DD that a lovely person on MN rescued her doodoos from the evil woman and her wicked brat and she is sending him home.

I'm glad it has worked out and wish your DD the best with her treatment.

I am glad to be in a position to be able to help. My eldest son is attached to a special pillow and my youngest his taggie blankets. I can't imagine anyone taking them from them and refusing to give them back.

Little Roo should be starting his journey tomorrow.
