Go shirtless in this heat. Nobody minds a shirtless man, but a woman would be done for indecent exposure.
It is such inequality, so UNFAIR (stomping feet)
:(

I do mind shirtless men.
They are banned in Monaco and I think it is a great idea.

Go to New York and enjoy the breeze on the nips!

I don't like to see shirtless men wandering around. Fine on a beach, around a pool in a holiday setting. I certainly would not walk around topless!

I also mind a shirtless man. Clothes keep you safe from the sun and also the right ones keep you cool by absorbing sweat and keeping it close to the body. That's why Mediterranean men wear a cotton vest under their clothes.

I've also travelled in places where there is 40+ degree heat and the wo/men there manage to look well dressed. It's not difficult.

It's bad enough seeing men with paunches and boobs. I really don't want to see womens' boobs swinging around the supermarket or anywhere else really.

In a working environment, men often get the shitty end of the stick in hot weather.

Women can wear skirts and dresses, but men are usually expected to continue wearing trousers.

I would support any man or boy who wore a skirt to school or work - after all, what is the objection?

There was a Dailymail article a while ago about a boy who chose to wear a skirt to school in protest that in banned shorts.

And working environment builders, drivers many of them shirtless and in shorts.

Unless it's a hottie and he's fit as f*ck, I don't like shirtless blokes either.
Some sights are just offensive!

I don't expect many women would want to. I like to go topless on the beach though. But yeah it grates that I can't unless I'm just with OH or female only company.
It wouldn't be indecent exposure though-that's for genitals only.

Sorry, when I said working environment, I meant offices, retail, restaurants etc. Few men would be allowed to wear even knee length shorts in those workplaces.

DP sometimes works on building sites and they often have a trousers and long sleeved tops rule for 'health and safety' Hmm.

I also mind a shirtless man unless on the beach or swimming pool.

It's because our breasts are seen as sexual in our culture and so to be covered up. I expect for comfort and practicality too, I wouldn't feel comfy with my big boobs bouncing around everywhere.

I wish men wouldn't either. There was a thread a while ago that says a woman wouldn't be arrested for being topless, but would for full nudity, I think. I suppose it would just offend people more if women went topless in the summer, because of how deeply ingrained the idea that breasts are solely for sex.

I've felt pretty repulsed by the number of men who we're flaunting their paunches in city centers this week

If it's not indecent exposure what would it be? Boobs out in tesco, for eg. i mean. Genuine Q.

Being topless or nude makes you feel HOTTER and not cooler. It makes your sweaty bits stick to things. [blech]

Report
picnicbasketcase · 24/07/2014 14:35

It might be breach of the peace? I'm not sure actually. I think the laws are about flashing and deliberately causing offence rather just the fact that someone is nude, IYSWIM.

Much as I enjoy resting my pendular swinging melons on top of the Crispy pancakes in the freezer section whilst feigning a browse, it's safer to do this whilst wearing a thin teeshirt and bra.

Freezer burns are not a good look on anyone, and neither is calling out the ambulance to deal with a trapped nipple on a crowded tube train.

That applies to both sexes IMHO.

Even in Mallorca there is a rule that men must cover their torsos off the beach. Good for them, having to look at lobster moobs and puce guts swinging about all drippy with sweat would put you right off your fideua.

Tesco would expect both men and women to be properly dressed to enter their stores fluffy. Lots of businesses have a 'no shirt, no shoes, no service' type rule. Don't they also ban pyjamas?

Good point though, is it an offence for a woman walk down the street topless? I suppose 'a breach of the peace' could be far ranging, but you would probably need lawyers to argue the case for or against.

but a woman would be done for indecent exposure.

No they wouldnt. Is breast feeding illegal? Do women get arrested for it? You could wall round with your foof dangling in the breeze but you cant be arrested for it.

In this heat and strong sun I prefer to wear a v light loose cover-up top anyway. Burnt shoulders and a sweaty cleavage is not a good look, or more to the point, comfortable.

I didn't think women could be done for indecent exposure, only men if they get their dangly bits out?

Not a fan of shirtless men in general. I don't need to see that much flesh unless i'm married to it, thanks Grin

Indeed, shake a penis is the only thing that is indecent in law.

Personally I dont want to look at any ones nips, fat bits or white bits, male or female. So if everyone could have a decent standard of dress and not drip sweat all over the courgettes, I will remain eternally grateful

I can't stand seeing men's sweaty chests at the supermarket, or waaaay too close to you on the tube. Put it away! It's so unthinking, the way most men do it, too. And if you complain you get "I don't mind you going topless too, love, hur hur hurrrr".

OnIlkleyMoor, I understood the reason that aircon in summer and heating in winter is often too cold/not hot enough for women working in offices is that it is set to be comfortable for men working in business suits.

(Also, I find as a woman who hates the heat that I am more comfortable and cool in trousers, not skirts, but recognise that isn't the case for everyone.)
