Pirate Birthday Cake for a 4 year olds party

Nadinerutter · 23/07/2014 21:14

Today, I have had notification via e-mail that the cake I ordered one month ago from Marks and Spencer's, the personalised pirate cake will not be arriving with three days until party day!
Their recompense is a cake off the shelf non of which will feed the 43 people, won't match the party theme nor be personalised.

Just want as many mum's to find out about this as possible so no one is left in the same position as me.

So disappointed.

Er, you've got 3 days notice. Buy something else. Or razz it up with a few playmobil pirates.

I think your are losing your sense of perspectives

You try getting a cake for 43 people at 3 days notice!

Am impressed though that you are having such a big party. Kids and their parents?

Do you have a costco nearby? Their cakes are amazingly delicious and huge. They sell cake toppers on eBay that you could jazz it up with

This isn't the first time Ive heard about this the past couple of days. A family member ordered a cake from them and the day before was told it wouldn't be turning up and was offered a off the shelf cake. I wonder if there is some issue at their bakeries?

That's disappointing

But agree, some gold choc coins and generous application of playmobil pirates will sort you out theme wise.

Hope you enjoy the party

There's something wrong with M&S at the moment. I had nominated deliveriesturning up late or cancelled on two occasions. Really can't trust there services at the moment I'm afraid. When I complained to the woman in the shop she said there had been alot if similar problems for people .

What is wrong is they cut contract with avana bakery leaving hundreds out of work, and now it seem like M&S are unable to deliver on orders.

The let me down too on a party food order. Wouldn't accept it more than 3 days before then said they didn't deliver the dish to the northwest (it was, if I recall, coq au vin). I wanted to collect from their flagship store so was ?!?A kind friend took me to Costco where I got some yummy catering size savouries AND a delicious cake. So would second the play mobile suggestion plus Costco run if you can. M&s failed to reply to my email. I'd never trust them again as I was hugely pregnant and only having a 'do' on the basis that I didn't have to cook. I could have done without the stress caused so OP you have my sympathy.

Thanks for the messages of how to make one, I am not the creative. However I will try.

It was the response from M&S which I thought was poor. There are a few let down people on twitter. All got the same response.

Such a big brand, with large markups I would have expected better service levels. Shocked.

Finding out about the job cuts are having an impact!

Thanks again for the messages of how to fix the problem.

Worth ringing around local bakeries. A long shot at such short notice but you may be able to find someone who can help.

Alternatively - my MIL gets cakes from a very talented WAHM who runs a business from home and I'm sure there are many others around. Worth putting a plea out on local Facebook pages etc. good luck!

If it is the pirate ship cake you ordered it wouldn't really feed 43 people anyway. DN had it and to get that many slices they would have to be really, really tiny. Considering the cost SIL was disappointed.
I think if you could get a big enough plain cake and put a plea out on FB someone would decorate it for you, or do it yourself.
I did a last minute pirate one with just blue background, large face with a bandana and eyepatch. I just used ready made icing from the supermarket.

Jolly Rodger flag. Large rectangular cake. Black icing all over, white icing of skull and crossbones. That's what I'm planning, hope it will be as easy for real as in my head. What is it with pirates and little boys? I blame Disney.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh, but honestly, plain chocolate slab cake from costco or similar and a look on pinterest and you are sorted (probably just as effectively at fraction of price. It is poor service, but you can fix it. Have a great party.

Waitrose might be able to complete your order as they have a wide range of party cakes

There is this pirate ship cake on BBC good food www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/pirate-ship-and-buried-treasure-island-cake

If that won't feed everyone yiu can always make a second plain cake with the same icing and cut that up for party bags.

That was good Altumkum! When it happened to us couldn't find anyone who could do it in time. But did get a big plain cake from McCoughlins Bakery that they did a bit of icing on. Was delicious.
