AIBU?

getting annoyed at botoxed friends getting told how young they look

Yes, I probably am being unreasonable. And yes, I should remove my judgey pants from my overly clenched buttocks, BUT:

several of the mums from school who I hang out with have botox. And fillers. And liposuction and any other range of artificial beautifying processes beyond the normal hair, manis and make up. Each to their own. I would personally never do it because I worry about the safety side of things AND it feels like cheating.

What irritates me is that whenever they post pics of themselves on Facebook or even go out in real life, they always get loads of comments raving about how young they look, that they haven't aged a day since high school and that they're just getting more stunning by the minute. In contrast I look like the wrinkled crone in the corner.

It makes me want to yell: THAT BECAUSE THEY HAVE PUMPED THEIR FACES FULL OF BOTOX!!!

I'm going to guess that that would be unreasonable to do. (Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to do it. Just once).

I realise this makes me sound like a huge cow and I know that they are perfectly entitled to do what they like and feel good about themselves when people notice. I just think it's slightly unfair that those of us who don't 'cheat' get viewed as being old or having let themselves go, if we don't go the botox route. Am I being unreasonable to feel this way?

Yeah it would probably wind me up too. Obviously YWBVU to shout at them.

sashh · 23/07/2014 19:00

A couple of days ago I watched an episode of House. I normally get medical info from more reliable sources but.... well..... this was about someone who it turned out had leprosy, it was the leprosy that made her look younger.

Maybe you could politely passive aggressively ask about their health?

I think it was lepromatous leprosy.

CaptainTrollolololol · 23/07/2014 19:00

Yab a bit u.

That's just the way pretty older women get complimented. For some reason it's seen as nice to be told you look younger. You won't be viewed as old or let go. You just aren't viewed as OMG YOUNG FACE.

Signs of age are goooood!

Player67 · 23/07/2014 19:01

Make up, facials and haircuts are not cheating?

Panzee · 23/07/2014 19:02

I'd say "oh don't you look young!" If I really meant "oh you've had loads of stuff done!" All passive aggressive like. :o

The comments on faceache are not compliments.

TheLovelyBoots · 23/07/2014 19:03

Why do you care?

I think you're being very unreasonable.

TakingTheStairs · 23/07/2014 19:05

I think YABU and you clearly don't have enough to worry about if it bothers you this much.

vicmackie · 23/07/2014 19:08

I don't think you're being unreasonable but take comfort from the fact that if they've had cheap fillers done they're going to look hilariously awful in a few years.

Ericaequites · 23/07/2014 19:09

I agree with OP. Some of my classmates from high school look much better than I do, but I'm still working on my first face. Also, my maintenance cycle is much shorter. And cheaper, leaving time and money for more important things.

vicmackie · 23/07/2014 19:10

IDK if you'd be unreasonable to casually mention their how great their botox work etc is looking in a comment, TBH. "OMG did you have your forehead done at Rejuvenox?? Amazing work!! You look fantastic!"

vicmackie · 23/07/2014 19:10

I'm still working on my first face

Haha!

Sandthorn · 23/07/2014 19:17

You think it's cheating? Sounds like, on some level, you've bought into the "competition" to look young, in which case I don't think you're in any position to judge.

ActingBusy · 23/07/2014 19:20

If I see someone that looks really young and exceptionally wrinkle free for their age I automatically assume they've had botox and fillers anyway.

PickleSarnie · 23/07/2014 19:23

Hair dye isn't "natural". Make up isn't "natural". How is botox different?

Relax Grin

When I comment on pictures of particular friends with 'my don't you look young, haven't changed a day!' line what i usually mean is....

'DEAR GOD, woman what have you done to your face! You look like a constipated trout whose just been smacked with a shiny shovel!'

Wink

The sad thing is these women are the same age as me. We're in our mid twenties. It's not like they had any wrinkle to fill in the first place?

YABU. The entire reason they had botox done was to look younger.

If someone got a hair cut, you wouldn't get upset that everyone loved their hair because you didn't use product or cut yours would you?

YouTheCat · 23/07/2014 19:32

I must admit to a raised eyebrow at the smooth and shiny forehead of an old school friend that I happened upon on facebook. She had a furrowed brow back when she was 14.

Still, at least I can raise my eyebrows, which is more than she can manage these days. Grin

Electriclaundryland · 23/07/2014 19:47

You're in with the wrong crowd. You should hang out with me and the mums in our village, we all look like shit.Grin

They'll begin to look like melted wax soon so don't let it worry you.

weatherall · 23/07/2014 19:51

I look at lot younger than my years. I hope no ones thinking I've had Botox.

I'm too scared of needles. Grin

But it's against my feminist principles anyway.

Viviennemary · 23/07/2014 19:53

No point in getting annoyed OP. I quite fancied the idea of botox but I've been put off by some of the horror sights I've seen. Wait a few years for the droopy lopsided smiles and stretched faces. Not that I'd wish that on anyone but everything has it's price.

Yanbu, nothing attractive about looking like a tight, plastic duck face but it's their choice really.

kitesfoorever · 23/07/2014 20:08

Yanbu.

Floisme · 23/07/2014 20:11

Don't worry, op, in a few years they'll have jowls and age spots, sagging faces and drooping mouths. And their necks and their hands will have gone. Botox and fillers only get you so far Grin
