Second aibu of the day. This one def not in the light hearted camp.

Had an accident 7 years ago in which I fractured my hip. All healed well and I never had any problems.

This afternoon hip started hurting a lot, only going down now, after I've had an ibuprofen. What do I do? A&e now in case something is seriously wrong? Gp in the morning? Mention it at .y upcoming appointment? Keep taking painkillers and monitor for a few days? Help!

Sounds like Osteoarthritis.

Try a hot water bottle and NSAID

Go to gp tomorrow and see what they say and phone nhs24 tonight for advise.

I dont know how much pain you are feeling but it might be unrelated to fracture or may be rheumatism?

I broke my foot years ago and I get pains in the foot when its cold or wearing ill fotting shoes and over excursion.

Im no doctor but dont panic

My old breaks (four ribs: two each on two occasions) ache in cold weather, when I'm coming down with something or exhausted, or when I've pulled something else. I've had that since I broke them (2001 & 2003 respectively).

If this is new it's worth checking out, I'd say, although how urgently is up to you. I wouldn't go to A&E, because it's not an A and probably not an E either ... although if you're frightened and don't want to wait you could try out of hours GP.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Thanks for your answers.

I've had twinges before but not episodes of pain lasting several hours.

Will phone gp tomorrow morning.

I fractured my pelvis four years ago and it's mostly fine but if I run too much or sit too long it can become bothersome. It also hurts a LOT more at certain times of the month Confused.

There is some hormonal connection, apparently, but also things sort of engorge (hate that word) which can put pressure on the old fracture site. Are you taking anti-inflammatories? If the OTC ones don't work you can get something stronger. You'll defo want to talk to your doctor. They may send you for a bone scan or MRI. How did you do it originally?

I had a pretty serious bike accident involving a lorry. Also fractured collarbone and skull.

Have taken an ibuprofen which seems to have stopped the pain, though it still feels numb. See what doc says tomorrow.

I have had extensive surgery (twice) on one of my knees and sometimes it aches and I have a fear of it 'going' again. It is really frightening as you remember the pain and the difficulty of it all. I would think a fracture would be long healed though and it might be a bit of arthritis or something - I def wouldn't go to A&E - they won't do anything you'll just be sat with all the drunks coming in - call GP and they will probably refer you for a scan - you might need some physio or something as well.

Try not to panic just take some painkillers and relax.

Maybe the accident changed your gait and you've put too much pressure on part of the joint? Or soft tissue damage? Or trapped nerve? Does it feel like a bone pain, muscle/ ligament pain or a sharp nerve pain?

Definitely not an accident or an emergency though, and they won't be able to give you answers anyway even if you did go.

If the pain is controlled by over the counter ibroprufen then it doesn't sound like a big problem to be honest.

With numbness needs checking out though, and I can understand why you'd be scared. All those bad body memories come flooding back.

If it becomes a constant problem (vs a scary one off) I'd be pushing for a referral as your gp won't be able to examine what's happening inside, and it's easy to end up with an assumption for a diagnosis.

One of my muscles went into hyperdrive (due to a complicated reason thats not relevant here!) and did the work of many other (bigger) muscles, so pulled my leg forwards in the hip socket so I couldn't lift up my leg without the hip joint stopping the bone from moving. That in turn caused trapped nerves and further messed up my walking. By the time I saw someone that could work out what was going on, I couldn't walk at all! So weird things can happen to bits of the body that seem quite simple.

My gp at the time fobbed me off for over 18 mths until I couldn't walk at all, I changed gps and the new one was horror struck that I'd got to the point of being immobile without any expert seeing me or intervention. So my advice is, don't panic, and if it is recurring or getting worse, be that squeaky wheel to get help.

I've had a lot of pain in this heat from old injuries but get it checked out anyway.

That is normal, unfortunately.

I have a very badly broken foot - it was a twist injury and I broke several bones at once. I also managed to damage nerves so the foot feels very different from the undamaged foot. I can't feel it well (which sounds a bit daft), for example if I put it in a bath of boiling water I would feel like "Ooh need to put in a bit of cold, that's slightly too hot". I don't have full feeling along the base of my foot at all. I've got some but that's it.

What they told me when I did it was that arthritis was inevitable and "sooner rather than later". I've had more operations on my foot since I did it and although I have much more use of my foot I have days where the break site gives me really bad pain. If it's really hot or damp, I have exactly the pain you describe. I also will need further operations as the use of my foot will deteriorate a bit with age (I'm 33) and my foot might need to be broken and reset.

I think talk to your GP, do not worry, this is not an emergency! I think it's probably the heat and maybe time of the month. But with a serious injury sometimes pain sets in. It can be for weird reasons (I've never understood why damp causes it) but your GP can set your mind at rest.

I'm 28 with arthritis. I hope it's not and just something temporary.

I got told my fractured bone would 'never be right again' and occasionally I get pain in it. Dr will be able to check it out for you.
