To be embarrassed about first birthday party theme.

DS is one next week. Party has been booked for two months and it's a Peter Rabbit theme. Blue bunting, themed cups, themed party bags and games and a themed cake. Aibu to worry people will think I just copied Prince George's party.
Not really a big deal but don't want to look like a wannabe...

Did you buy the gear from party pieces? Grin

I do sympathise as this is exactly the kind of thing I'd worry about but I bet a lot of people won't even make the connection.

Don't worry, I had no idea that was the theme of Prince George's birthday (neither I'm sure will the majority of your guests).

I've done themed birthdays too, completely normal and acceptable. Peter rabbit is cute!

Is Ds also name George.

Until this thread I didn't know what the prince's birthday theme was.

But now you've drawn attention to it... Anyway, who cares what anyone else thinks. Hope you and DS really enjoy the party!!

Same as Fluffy. I had no idea about that either. Go ahead if that's what you want to do.

It's a first birthday party and a celebration that DH and I have managed to keep a baby alive for a year from knowing nothing about babies! We'll theme to our hearts content thanks! I even planned a themed organic menu

Dd's first birthday is next month and she has a ladybird theme because for some unknown reason she has a mad obsession with them and can spot them in shops from a mile away! I think it's cute!

And til I read this I had no idea what price George was having so I wouldn't worry

I didn't know Prince George had had a Peter Rabbit party either till reading this. And anyway, if you like it, just do it. All I'd say is: party bags for 1 yos? I'd imagine they will just chew them? Unless they're for the adults. I'd save yourself the bother on that front for a couple of years.

Can I be nosey and ask what's on the themed organic menu Grin Carrots I presume?

So not really embarrassed then ! Is this like a weird stealth boast thing 'gosh and golly would you believe we booked this before will and Kate'
Come on. Own it!

Grin

Our theme was 'champagne : lots of'

Didn't even realise Prince George had a birthdays party and it was themed so I'm sure I'm not the only one.

People actually do stuff like this when the child isn't old enough to appreciate? Shock

Organic Rabbit sandwiches to tie in with the theme?

FreudiansSlipper · 21/07/2014 22:41

I hope you are offering Pimms too

I'm sure that on some level ds1 appreciated the champagne theme >

Of course with ds2 and DD I realised that I could have the champagne without the bother of the party so win/win

I think we had Thomas the Tank Engine as a theme.

We then had that theme for about 5 years until we had Star Wars as a theme which ran and ran until 2 years ago when guitars took over our lives.

DS has ASD. He likes themes.

If people think silly things about your Peter Rabbit theme, it probably says more about them than you, doesn't it?

Sounds lovely. I had no idea that Prince George had a themed party also, but having done a couple of parties now myself, I know it would be difficult to throw together a theme party at the drop of a hat. If anything, it would just seem like a nice coincidence.

It would absolutely be the sort of thing that I would worry about, and then realise afterwards that I was overthinking.

I love themed parties (child at heart), but the theme of DS1's first birthday was "Yay! I made it through a whole year without completely messing things up". DH convinced me that G&T's for all us first time mums was a bad idea. I still think he was wrong Wink

I've just celebrated DD2's first birthday today. It was such a lovely day. A BBQ with the family. No theme, just relaxed fun in the garden. I had a theme for DD1's first birthday though. It was a very hungry caterpillar with all the food from the book. I spent a small fortune on all the decorations. I have to say I enjoyed DD2's birthday far more than DD1s.
