To Get Fed Up & Change My Mind (Freecycle related)

I've been messed around a lot giving things away through Freecycle, over the years, so I do know I have a short fuse when it comes to my having to put too much effort in, so wondering others opinions & if IABU in this instance...

Put a large outdoor plant on there last Week - offering it to anyone who could come & dig the rest of it out quickly - it's gone over in the last storm & though I'm attached to it as I nursed it from a tiny dead stick, it's grown into a monster, taken over our yard, so seemed a good time to call it a day & get rid - it's a beautiful 2.5 m tree now & blocking up the yard so I can't even water the rest plants, so need it to go quickly.

I had a lot of replies - one from a woman I offered it to - said she could have it, emailed phone number etc & then heard nothing

Another reply turned out to be a guy we vaguely know - so I offered it to him - he came & took it, but looked a bit shocked when he saw it, so I asked if he was sure he wanted it, he said yes, just that it looked bigger than he realised - so offered to have it back if there was any problem with it as I'd had a lot if replies & by now another good friend of DHs had asked for it.

1st Woman rang the next morning - expecting to come & get it, insisting she had replied to my last email - but I hadn't got her reply to arrange time etc as I had asked - I apologised, said it was gone, but I would keep her in mind if anything else needed to go as I was having a sort out.

Turned out aquantaince thought he could get away with tree as a houseplant - it's huge, so no way - he rang back to ask if I would take it back.

In the interest of fairness I emailed the first woman again excepting there had been some sort of email mix up & she sounded nice - she was pleased - but wanted to know why it had come back, hinting at something being wrong with it - reassured her it was fine & she agreed she would come & get it.

Turns out she's not local, seems to think we can organise the collection around her school run - which doesn't work for me - I need DH her to move stuff to get it through & out if the house. Keep having to repeat this.

14 texts & several emails including another photo of it later, after arranging that she collects later today - she texts telling me her mum can get it on Sunday - is that okay, will save her driving into townHmm

I replied, no, don't bother friend now wants it, giving it to him, thanks for your interest

She did reply saying she can get it today, but I CBA & giving it to friend instead - it's easier

AIBU -

freecycle is always like that, much better to stick it on ebay for £1

She sounds like a right pain the arse!

I'm gobsmacked at the man returning it. I'd have just told him to Freecycle it on to someone else.

So your trying to get rid of a massive plant Confused.

I think people invest too much in it.

If you want to bat emails back and forth thats your choice, I do it a bit and cut my loses and go onto next person and if things do not seem to be wrapped up, I shift the stuff myself...and think...

wow tough shit today I had to get rid of my own un wanted stuff...

No its not. Its amazing, and offers amazing opportunities to people, and anyone who is moaning about it, I hope you have never wasted anyones time, or shifted utter rubbish onto unsuspecting people, and always send a thank you email once you have taken your stuff..

I have been able to kit myself and my DC with great stuff we could have never afforded, rowing machines, cross trainers, tons of toys, clothes etc...I have used it for years and years, so many more good people than crap.

You stuffed her around a bit as well, I think. You should have just offered it to the other friend and not worried about getting back in touch with her.

You advertised an outdoor plant when you later say it's a 2.5 metre tree. I can understand why there's a lot of confusion here.

Ywbu though. It seems like you've not given the first woman time to reply as you want it gone. Not everyone is online 24/7.

However, once you'd both settled on a time to get it, she wbu to then try and change it again without good reason.

Although I have to say, her mum getting it when she's nearby is much more in the spirit of freecycle than someone making a special trip. Or at least that's how it works round here. No one makes a special trip. People generally hold onto said item until the person is travelling that way.

Not used free cycle but we've just got rid of a bed base and ikea chair to the British Heart Foundation. They take all sorts and all I had to do was ring our local shop and they came this morning and took it to sell. I had tried to sell the bed on FB and found it a hassle with one woman seeming to think it was ok to not reply for ages then demand to come and collect it immediately. I'd rather it went to charity in the end!

I set up a face book account I have 0 friends on it use it just so I can go in the local selling page, I have had so many time waisters. Was selling a nest of tables for a river woman said she was coming Friday then said could I hold till Tuesday, then said sorry not been paid sell to someone else.
I was messed about for 2 days last week woman said she came and we didn't answer I know that's rubbish then didn't turn up at 2nd agreed time.
Even when I'm giving it away they don't turn up
