My hubbie's sister's hubby, well, his other half is my hubby's sister.

That kinda thing?

I hate 'hubby' and 'my man'. Bawk.

Oi oi oi BigRed

Manshape is used by one poster, for a specific reason, and you should get over it. Said nicely.

There is nothing wrong with husband or DH.
The others are just too twee for me.

'manshape' is kind of pukey tbh

I hate hubby when its used by people who ARENT MARRIED! Fb posts like "being a good wifey till hubby comes home" when they are not even engaged.

Sorry. Spat a bit there.

I dislike other half, simply as it implies you are not a fully functional person on your own.

Reasons behind saying 'manshaped'

DH/DW/DP are the normal MN idiom. Sharing language is an important part of how communities self-identify and iteration is a binding factor.

Choosing differently marks you out as newcomer or outsider.

If the speech of a group is anathema to you, then you are better off seeking a different group.

That's not just MN, or even just Internet btw, it's all human (and many other animal) communities.

I'd just say husband

I hate the way everyone uses DH, DD, etc on here, even worse when they use DC's (so you have 'darling' children's', do you??) Don't see why it's so hard to say partner, husband, daughter etc.

People how say hubby or similar should be shot.

I hate hubby when its used by people who ARENT MARRIED!

Why?

Marriage is an emotional state, surely? Love, commitment, etc.

DS calls DP 'dad'. No legal or biological attactment. But DP brought him up and loves him.

If someone wants to call their longterm partner their husband then I think that's lovely.

:)

So if someone doesn't have a husband (and I would think thats the minority of the population) so therefore cant use DH, what do yo expect then to use ? what would be you approved go to word/acronym OP ?

I'm with you on that, Velma. Along with people who celebrate their 'two-month anniversary' and probably 'give it 150 per cent' at work.

I could go on...

Different view I guess elah. To me it smacks of playing Grown Ups. and they're rarely long term tbh.

I don't know anyone who uses it for their long term partner. Friends who have a new 'hubby' on a weekly/monthly basis however...

Other than that I don't really care what other people call their partner. Unless its fucking cunt or the like.

vlad - yes! Someone I know posted a photo album on fb of their "six month anniversary outing" - of dating that is. I think ive become cynical in my old age, but that's the kind of thing you do at 14 isn't it?!
