AIBU?

What would you think if MNHQ asked you to strip for a charadee calendar

Because that's what they're asking Gransnetters to do and I think it's utterly depressing.

Although I'm not a gran even though I'm old enough I like going on the GN site because they have some interesting discussions.

One of the members came up with the idea of posing for a calendar and HQ have taken up the idea and want volunteers to have their photos taken with pieces of technology covering their "bits". This is to dispel the image that older people, ie over 45, don't know how to use technology.

So would you strip for a MN calendar and how would you feel if HQ mooted the idea?

No ageist comments please.

How would I feel if I was asked? Amused! I would laugh and laugh and politely decline!

How would I feel if they did it with willing participants? Indifferent. I wouldn't mind either way Grin

I think it's absolutely fucking outrageous and I can hardly believe it's happening. Has nobody spoken up against it?

Oh God.

Novelty stripping calenders are surely one of the most overdone, mind addlingly boring things known to man.

I don't understand the point of gratuitous nudity?

You cant have it one way - photography of naked women is glamour porn, and the human body is wonderful lets all marvel at it.

So standing there with a mouse over each breast dispels the myth over 45's are techno-dim does it?

Oh calm down Martorana - it's only Calendar Girls with a 'difference' not some sleazy porn movie for grannies !

'over 45s don't know how to use technology' it would be more appropriate if it said over 70s.

I'd amused.

I'd get my bum out though. So I can look back one day and think "my bum was ace" in a nice classy shot.

I don't understand why people get upset about nudity (porn and pornograhic shots are a level above just being naked in my opinion), why is there something so wrong with the naked body?

Maybe I should become a naturist?

I'd despair a little at the lack of originality.

Over 45s?? Wtaf would be my first reaction. My second reaction would be wtaf.

The lack of originality is beyond pathetic.

If they asked, I'd tell them they'd better have a very wide angled lens and a good version of photoshop. Grin

Gross and very very outdated. I mean, everybody has done this and it is not new.

I'd need a ruddy mainframe for coverage. But I wouldn't agree to it anyway, it's very unoriginal and vulgar imo.

We'll I would do it, probably

And WTF with the over 45s being referred to as "older people"Angry

I think the state of me, nekkid, would lose a charidee money and MNHQ would get sued for spreading ghastly and horrific porn.

I would have to have an entire building covering me. Make it an igloo, I'll be December.

And since when are 'older people' over 45? When I think 'older people' I think of people in their 70s and 80s. Clearly I have one foot (demurely socked and shod) in the grave.

Maybe you should do a little reading? Feminism appears to have passed you by!

They'd need a really wide angled lens for my picture - and to be honest, I think I would lose them money!

I'd rather they asked us all to submit photos we had taken - scenery, nature, pets, children, whatever, and created a calendar that way.

No I bloody well wouldn't, and I think it's a very dated and stale idea.
Don't have a problem with nudity, whatever age. I'm just not much of a publicity person.
Plus, what are they raising money for? Victims of DV for whom technology is often a lifeline, or for MN Towers to have a new coffee machine with all the trimmings?

Patronising much. Did you mean to sound so rude?

Over 45? FFS. Over 45s go to work every day in this country and use technology, teach technology to other people, have technology in their home as a norm, fix technology when it goes wrong. Over 45 is just half the ruddy population isn't it? Try over 65 at the very least.

The nudity thing is just dull.

I think they would soon ask me not to and perhaps sponsor me to put the clothing back on.

On a more serious note I agree that this particular fund-raising route has been done to death and perhaps we should be more creative and less appearance focused. I'm sure women are worth far more than just displaying their naked body. MN has many talented and intelligent women why not utilize this amazing resource?

I'll ask here what I asked on another thread today; when did feminism stop being about our right to choose, and become the right of the more vocal feminists to tell all other women what they should and shouldn't do?

Report
sillyknickers · 04/04/2014 18:38

I don't have an issue with being photographed nude - have had a lot done by pro photographers when I used to model. But I probably wouldn't do it for MN calendar. Not bothered about being naked in public but wouldn't want it to be publicly known that I'm a MNer!
