AIBU?

To think that parents should occasionally let their pubic hair grow as nature intended to educate their children as to what adult bodies look like?

I have been having this discussion with dp, our dc are still very young so puberty is a long way off but I was wondering how children know that pubic hair is normal if they only every see their parents with minimal/absent pubic hair?

Dp has light hair and shaves his pubic hair most of the time so he doesn't really have any visable pubic hair, obviously that is his preference and his right to choose but do parents owe it to their children to show them what an unmodified adult body looks like so it isn't such a shock to them when they thelself start growing pubic hair?

A friend of mine told me that her 10 year old recently told her her pubic hair "needed a trip" the 10 year old will very likely have her own pubic hair soon and the idea of her thinking the correct thing to do is trim or get rid of the hair compleatly really makes me feel something has gone wrong in our society (and I remember the state of my legs when I first experimented with shaving!).

Erm......what makes you think children are regularly exposed to their parent's pubic hair anyway?? Shock

Or did I have a sheltered childhood?? Grin

I don't recall ever seeing my parent's pubic hair, most certainly wouldn't have wanted to and certainly wouldn't have wanted a speech or educational chat about a person's 'natural hairy state' with them acting as real life models!! Grin

I wonder about this too, ikea, although I struggle to get away from certain habits and societal expectations with my own behaviour (which therefore varies wildly).

I actually started a thread like this once, I think, and as I remember it got a bit nasty. So put on that flame-proof coat and have a Wine...

Men shave their pubic hair? Shock

No. It's irrelevant. I can't stand that people try to make hair styles into an ishoo.

I wasn't suggesting an inspection of pubic hair, but surely kids see their parents naked? Things like getting in and out of the bath or going swimming.

I'm not totally without suffering for womankind myself though, I'm doing the bit-of-pregnancy-weight-left-four-years-after-the-event Smile

I'm a martyr to it.

I don't think there's anything to be concerned about.

Less than 2% of men remove pubic hair

And 11% of women do topiary

So the vast majority do nothing

"needed a trip"

Or is already enjoying one?

There are many, many things I explain to my children rather than show them. Pubic hair is one of them.

Is it normal for men to shave their pubes Confused?
I'm a long time married but prior to that had a number of boyfriends. Every one, without fail, were as nature intended.

Am I abnormal too? Nothing going on in my nether regions other than au naturale.
I always thought the plucked chicken look was the 'different' look and hirsute was normal.

It is an issue if 10 year olds think that pubic hair should be shaved/trimmed and they see it as a problem if it isn't.

I never saw my parents pubic hair that I remember and certainly don't go around showing my dc.
I think I've led a simple life too.

OP are you for real.

Can you imagine said 10 year old going to school and telling her/his teacher and peers that they see their parents shaved pubic parts.
This has to be a wind up

Really? Goodness, I thought it would be much more than that considering how often these threads come up.

I think that most 10 year olds wouldn't want to see their parents naked, hairy or otherwise.

Maybe dp is odd to shave, he isn't British, he thinks it's very normal. I don't do any pubic hair maintenence which dp thinks is unusual, maybe he is hoping our children will follow his lead.

And the men that get rid of their pubes are either:

Gay

Serious cyclists

Eczema crotch sufferers

Those insecure about cock size and shave to make it bigger

Are you not supposed to be naked around your own children? Is there an age limit or is it just as soon as they leave the vagina they must never see that area again?

Why do you give a shit what your kids do with their pubic hair OP?

Only on MN are people so bloody obsessed with this.

I'm quite sure they'll learn that they can do whatever they want with theirs.

I managed to work this out all by myself without ever seeing my parents naked.
