I like it. It makes me laugh, especially when I think about them looking back in years to come and realising what they looked like.

It will their turn to laugh at the next generation in a few years Grin

I'm a young lady and carry mine in the crook of my elbow some of the time. It's not very big , and not very heavy. Am I still moronic, SaucyJack? Wink

I do it because: A) I'm short and usually find shoulder bags of the same size awkward and unflattering, but can't use a smaller one as my Kindle wouldn't fit inside; B) I don't really like things on my shoulders; and C) I'm most comfortable carrying it this way.

The only thing that bothers me about it is the slightly increased potential for it to get stolen, but I don't worry too much about that as I know how easy it is for a shoulder bag to get pinched anyway.

Saucy do you know what moron means and why it's an insult?

Confused

How else do you carry a handbag?

I'm not a young lady but my mum (who obviously is not young either) just gave me one of those handbags with short straps for Christmas and I find myself carrying it that way.

I much prefer a strap over the shoulder, but OTOH it's a really nice handbag and everything fits in it perfect.

Looks stupid but possibly doesn't care

I carry mine here because I don't buy handbags with long straps. I don't understand what's wrong with this.

My handbag is big but not full or heavy. I've never really thought about how I carry a bag before to be honest.

With a long strap crossed over the chest Grin

i do it with my handbag, does it bother people? didn't know it did tbh :o

not having a go, just genuinely wondering?

I carry mine like that because I have really small shoulders and bags don't stay up. If I carry it by the handle down by my side it feels weird.

Not all my handbags would fit onto my shoulder easily due to winter coat with suit underneath. Some do, some don't. Not sure why it's even on your radar. YABU

Doesn't a long strap really hurt your boobs?

I had no idea this bothered anyone either. I'm not young or fashiony.

I'm a laydee and i carry a bag like that sometimes. My shoulders are rather narrow and shoulder straps tend to fall off. If i put my bag over my arm i have two hands free.

Personally i think it looks more formal/dressed up to carry a bag like that.

I've never actually given any thought to how I grasp my handbag - although thinking about it now, I do the crook of the elbow thing, the reason being it leaves my hands free, and the bags I have are too short strapped to carry on my shoulder .Didn't realise another human being would even have an opinion on it, let alone think I was a 'moron' Shock From now on I shall wrap the strap around my head and let the bag hang down behind me Wink

My handbag has short straps, so I usually carry it in one hand. However, if my hands are full, I carry it in the crook of my elbow. I'm not young young, but I'm in my early 30s.

I don't see how it's not good for you. Certainly carrying it like that would be better than carrying a heavy bag on your shoulder, I think. I used to carry a shoulder bag and often found myself unconsciously raising my shoulder slightly to prevent the bag from sliding down, which caused some neck pain.

I never carry a bag with the shoulder strap across my body. I have big boobs and i hate the way it feels and looks having a strap jammed between them.

I carry mine like that.
I'm not young.

Across body looks shit on me because I have big boobs.
On my shoulder annoys me, because sometimes people walk too close and knock it off my shoulder.

I had no idea it bothered anyone either.

Well, my big handbag usually has a laptop in it. Is it stating the obvious to point out the bag has to be bigger than the laptop?

Those bags in the picture look a bit silly because they're obviously half empty, is all.

I have to have cross body bags, cant keep a bag on one shoulder it keeps falling off and really love bags with short handles but just cant be "doing" with it iykwim? Like having my hands free, I worry in the crook of my elbow my arm would go numb or id forget to keep my arm bent.... tis hard work this handbag lark!

Hmm

So, I look like a moron, and am a fashion victim, because I carry my bag in a comfortable way?

This is bizarre. How else would you carry it, if it doesn't have a long strap? And even if it does... why does it make me look stupid? Genuinely confused. How is it 'fashion victim'?! HOW?

I laugh at DD for doing this, I call them granny bags, mind you she thinks I'm the weird one for holding them by the handles, you know, as it's what handles are for.
Not as bad as the 1970s prostitute coats they're all wearing now though - the ones that look like they're made from skinned rabbits.
Don't get me started on shiny leggings or jumpers with bits of plastic on them ( that make you look like a bin-man) !

A lot of handbags can't fit on shoulders
Also when I'm travelling on the tube (for example) I find it easier to hold it like the OP described because I use my free hand to grab my oyster/wallet (maybe it's a lazy thing too!)

It is bizarre isn't it. Although the ladies at the top of the thread appear to have been vastly outnumbered by the people who do.

Can't quite fathom why anyone would care how another carries their handbag.
