To resent being given two rotating musical biscuit tins?

I now have two of these tins, from M&S, in the shape of Xmas trees. They play an annoyingly tinny rendition of Jingle Bells when you rotate them. What am I meant to do with the tins when the biscuits have gone? They're too ugly for ornaments, even at Christmas, too awkwardly shaped for storage, and while they might amuse the kids for all of 5 minutes, there's a label on the bottom which says they shouldn't be used as toys.

After Christmas they will go into the recycling bin, along with thousands of others, but I suspect that a lot more energy will have been used to manufacture and recycle them than the equivalent for a cardboard box.

If M&S is serious about its flagship 'Plan A' environment policy then I think it should be collecting the tins in January for re-use in next year's Christmas tat-flog.

Well if you take the tree bit off you could give them to a golfer for some Christmas putting practice? Lie them on their side and they would be perfect to hit golf balls into...

I like these personally. Have toyed with the idea of buying one, but they are pretty expensive. I would use them as my biscuit tin.

Hah! I've just had a brainwave and remembered the annual PTA collection of unwanted gifts in January. The tins will be safely stored in the school shed, ready to be filled with sweets and sold off next December at the "give your kids £2.50 so they can buy you a present" stall at school. Fellow parents beware!

YABU to 'resent' being given them. It's nice to be given things, even if things aren't to your taste.

I've had all sorts of shit presents (from my dad mostly) that are clearly what he loves, but not my thing. I certainly don't resent it at all.

They're nowhere near as bad as I anticipated from your OP. I was all ready to bowl in with support, I agree that very tacky, useless gifts are worthy of resent. These are not really to my taste but I guess if I were given these they'd go in the box of decorations to be pulled out at Christmas time. Perhaps two would be a bit worthy of an inner eye-roll...

haha very much laughing to myself as MIL was bought one 2 years ago and it has been in the living room since ( she is hoarder queen)..and she tried to give it to us other day for dd as it played the music ( hastily declined )

I can think of a home for that on my dresser or a book case, were I suspect it's just the right scale.

We have one too.
The biscuits were shit as well. Not a big fan of shortbread in this house.
But 6 yo adores the tin so it can go to live in her room after xmas.

I got one this year for my DD's to have on Xmas Eve - they found it last weekend which I'm actually quite pleased about as it has provided hours of entertainment already! They love that darn Christmas tree!

YABU, they are fabulous! I don't like getting unnecessary presents generally, but I wouldn't object to this. You can eat the biscuits and the tin is fun. I would let the DC play with it - the label is just covering themselves.
