AIBU?

Cliff Richard - should he give it up?

Just been watching him on This Morning (whilst pretending to work from home and surfing Mumsnet).

AIBU to think he should call it quits? His face is full of plastic and his movements are stiff. He's certainly never been a Mick Jagger but Mick still has the energy and fire of a 30 year old, despite looking so haggard (and we all know why THAT is).

So Cliff, what are you doing? You were very pretty when you were young. But now I think it's time to put on the slippers.

??

No.

Cliff makes too many people happy to stop cliffing.

His Cliffing is inoffensive and harms no one.

Paul McCartney on the other hand....

He's awful isn't he? What's wrong with growing old gracefully? He looks completely ridiculous for a man in his 70's and is extremely deluded about his place in the history of popular music, hell he was little more than a Poundland Elvis when he started out. He's just lucky that he has very loyal, and slightly loopy and obsessive fan base have stuck by him all these years.

Yes. Oh, please, yes.

In the 1960s would be good and take his back catalogue with him.

While that fan base is alive then I think he should choose to carry on. (health permitting)

Why has he got a dead animal on his head these days?

He's not for me is he? He's for his loyal and more mature fans.

Asking him to give it up would be like asking Peppa Pig to give it up because I don't like her. She's not for me. She's for kids.

I watched him.

I like him because we share a birthday! Grin

there is no reason for him to quit ...NONE AT ALL!

although leaving his tie to hang aimlessly around his neck, made him look like he'd forgotten how to put it under his collar and tie it

At the risk of outing myself; My grandmother was diagnosed in 2009 with cancer. She got very poorly VERY quickly. She also happened to be a massive fan of Cliff. I wrote to him to ask for a signed photo to help lift her spirits. Sadly my Gran passed away within a couple of months of her diagnose but one day soon after while trying to cope with the grief of not having her with us I received a letter from Cliffs agent which included a signed photo from Cliff Richard with a lovely message to my Gran.
It doesn't seem like much but I found it extraordinarily comforting and my Grandad did too. He used to rib her over her love of Cliff and I know she would have adored it.
I think he should keep going for as long as he wants to, he will always be special to me.

Sorry to say... I was literally cringing for him during that performance. Haven't seen someone so camp since I was in Legends Bar, Brighton last year!!! ShockShock

YANBU
He should give it up. To me. I have been waiting for him forever. I convinced my kids he was going to marry me. Now they think I am a liar.

Gutted I missed him this morning. [Sad]

Bet my grandmother loved that everything is bloody cliff, calendars, cd's, DVDs, photos, tops...

I hate him he sounds annoying his songs are so old and he looks horrible from all the stuff he has done

His best song for me at Christmas is 'Saviours day', love it.

And the kids know 'Daddys home' cos I used to sing it around 6pm after I had the call he was on his way. Slushy I know, but leave him alone he's ok!

He makes a lot of people very happy in a mostly (cringe factor aside!) inoffensive way and for that reason alone he should keep going if he wants to. He's been going for so long now, even though I could care less for most of his music, that he at least has my respect for his tenacity! Far rather deal with Cliff than Bieber.

I can envisage a similar conversation on a forum in about 30 years time about Gary Barlow to be honest Wink Because he IS going to be still going. We all know it. Mind you, so might Cliff..
