AIBU?

To wonder what you have to do to get a thread deleted

A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread on AIBU, got a few not so nice responses and I decided I would rather have it deleted.

I contacted MNHQ and asked them to delete the thread, who said they did not tend to delete whole thread at the original posters request unless there was personal attacks or illegal/ racist material. They suggested I let it just slip down the list of active conversations into oblivion, which eventually it did.

I posted on a thread on AIBU today, went back to check on it a couple of hours later, to find it deleted with a message from the poster saying she had asked MNHQ to delete the thread, and thanking people for their advice.

I'm just wondering why MNHQ deleted their message (which when I last looked at it had no personal attacks or illegal/ racist material) but not mine. There weren't even any nasty attacks, people were generally supportive of the OP and the difficult situation she was in. Obviously this may have changed since I posted, but seeing as the thread is now deleted I will never find out.

Just seems a bit unfair to me.

They don't tend to delete if a poster isn't happy with the replies they get but they will if the poster can convince them that they are in danger of being outed in real life.

If the whole thread turns into a massive bun fight they sometimes delete the whole thing rather than zap every other post.

But no, as far as I know, just not liking what you've been told is not going to get a thread deleted.

I think because it contains information which could out them.

I asked in my earlier posting days for the same thing ... I asked something didn't consider some replies and ended up offending people. got the same reply from MNHQ. the other thread, though I didn't see it, may have outed the OP or have some other implication you weren't aware of.

The other thread was a name change fail.

One of the reasons I don't even attempted to NC as I know I'd fuck it upGrin

I have had stuff deleted when I realised that I had posted specific information that would have immediately outed me in RL to anyone that knew me.

I have also received the exact same reply from MNHQ as you have had.

I think if you want to get a thread deleted you just have to post fake personal information that makes it look like your thread makes you identifiable. IYSWIM

valium, the thread I wanted to delete was also a name change fail.

To give them credit, MNHQ did delete my post where I name change failed, and then all the subsequent posts commenting about it. But they didn't delete the posts where the people who had their posts deleted posted to say they had only been deleted because of the name change fail. Making all the previous deletions a bit pointless!

I don't know why the whole of other thread was deleted frog,I would've thought it was just as easy to delete the NC fail posts.
