AIBU?

To think there is too much over thinking about music/tv/celebs?

All I seem to come across on here is the Omg brigade flapping about Robin Thick, Twerking, Miley Cyres tongue.

People wanting to complain, they're offended blah blah blah.

For goodness sake, it's like one upmanship on who is setting the world to rights.

Aibu?

You're certainly not BU. If people are stupid enough to watch/read the sort you crap have quoted, they should enjoy suffer it in silence and not shove it in the face of people who have sensibly avoided it.

YABU

I think if you have even the tiniest feminist bone in your carcass you cannot help but be nauseated by Thicke et al.

It is a depressing state of affairs.
But I am an old punk and my conscience is clear.
Just makes me sad that people are actually buying this shite.

Over thinking isn't the problem. It's under thinking that worries me.

YABU.

Quite right, OP, let's just let the world go all to shit because it's Someone Else's Problem, shall we? And people who care obviously have too much time on their hands and no real problems to worry about. Hmm

Personally, I'm not going to be the one who stood by and let songs about rape become mainstream acceptable.

There's no one-upmanship about it. I'm not looking for approval or to win some kind of Professionally Offended trophy. I don't care what anyone else does, though of course I'd be pleased if others join me. But I'll be damned if I'll ever stop trying to make the world better than it currently is.

YABU. And if you think misogyny or rape should just be ignored or laughed off then you're Thicke as well

Oh do fuck off OP, do I want my 10 year old DD singing those Thicke lyrics and thinking that they are perfectly OK??

No I don't and SHAME on you if you think that's OK Angry

I don't feel your pain OP.

I'm not saying the lyrics to Thickes song are perfectly acceptable but fgs it's been going on for weeks.

Tonight he performed on The X Factor and it's like Groundhog Day. Yes, we all know the song is close to the bone but it's like a race to post a link to the complaints hotline. Obviously the weeks and weeks of complaints have come to nothing for ITV to allow him to perform on Prime a Time TV.

I don't feel your pain either.

Have felt the pain of being raped though.

The Robin Thicke song is a bit rapey, I'm certainly not comfortable with that.

Some stuff you can just not watch/turn telly off and ignore if it's not for you - I'd say miley comes into that category.

So I guess it depends on what you consider worth getting proactive about. I don't like people who just complain but do nothing. That doesn't mean they are wrong to think something is wrong or sending an irresponsible message to younger people.

I don't think there is such a thing as being a 'bit' rapey.

If it's still going on after a few weeks, then to me that says we should shout out about it all the louder, not just give up because we weren't heard the first time.

Have you considered the reason people are posting links to complaints lines is to actually complain. Not to score any kind of points. And if lots of people are doing it, it's because lots of people are very upset about this song.

Why on earth do you think anyone is doing it for some kind of weird recognition? Confused

On fence. Love lots of current music, love R&B and pop... even though am ancient. My dd watched Robin Thicke's production on X factor tonight and said the women dancers were 'disrespecting themselves' and it 'made her sick' (wearing very little with writing all over their bodies). She is 9. Had to concur.

GeeTeeEff · 20/10/2013 23:04

Did I say anyone is doing it for recognition?

I've listened to the song a good few times, I don't see any description of rape at all. It's a very sexual song, I can see that but no references to rape.

OP - you were more pissed off with people's 'boring' complaints than you were about the 'unacceptable' lyrics.
You know where your attitude goes?? What are you actually saying? That 'yeah yeah it's unacceptable but let's not be humourless about it, let's not be angry, let's not make a fuss' attitude? Let's see, where does that end up?
It ends up with rape apology
It ends up with victim blaming
No, I don't have a sense of humour about those things.
I don't think your attitude is clever or helpful.
My dd (3) is growing up in a world more full of this shit than ever before, and other women- like you- are going to tell her she needs to just shrug it off? Bollocks to that.

And if all you see on here is threads about Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and twerking, then you're not making effort to actually read much, OP.

OP, my rapist said he wanted to rip up my cunt. Do you get it now? why this song could possibly be offensive?
Let me tell you, I didn't find that 'very sexual'.
Yep, I'm in the 'OMG brigade' when I basically hear my rapist's words every time I hear this repulsive, misogynist song. No apologies for that.
