AIBU?

AIBU to be fretting about whether it's twins, or stressing at the thought it may not happen at all??

Based on the Panda's reputation of total apathy (sorry darling, I don't have a headache, I'm not tired, I do still fancy you, but j'ah know what? I just can't be arsed), I'm getting all excited about the most eagerly awaited birth since the royal baby.

... and yet, it may well end in tears. Not only there won't be one mini Tian-Tian, but it may not be twins, and actually it may be a phantom pregnancy.

Meanwhile we are being chastised by the Conservationists for only loving cute and fluffy ones, instead of focussing on the plight of the "photographically challenged" (OK, the goddam ugly) creatures like frogs and rhinos.

Isn't it all too stressful for words.

Yes I agree, tis very stressful. Talk about a two week wait. Is she? Isn't she? No wonder ruddy pandas are endangered.

YABU to fret. That said, when I read the panda story this morning, my immediate thought was "ooh, I wonder if we will get tickets for the Commonwealth Games next year so we can do a Glasgow/ Edinburgh trip to then see lovely, cute panda cubs?"

I need to get out more!

The cub (if born) will only be there for a year and then has to go to China. That annoys me too. Can't it claim asylum and stay in the West? We could start our own Free Panda population......

Its the awful thought that it could be a phantom pg, how bad would that be! I guess they cant do a scan the way they do with sheep, in case it disturbs Tian-Tian and she would would probably throw a hissy-fit and sulk, like a real Diva Smile

They said they wouldn't risk the vets hand......Hmm. Given the size of the embryo I suspect it would have to be a trans-vaginal scan. CAn't blame her for not being keen.

Yes northern you are right, it wouldn't be nice to be interfered with like that, poor girl!

I wonder if the Telegraph will place a 24 hour camera at the hospital door zoo enclosure again.

Panda watch.

And wonders if this is Sad Panda. some past thread

'And as Tian-Tian emerges for the first time since the birth of her baby we can see that, yes she is wearing a bespoke panda fur ensemble with just a hint of a baby tum there'

Yes, but where will the father be? Confused

Report
northernlurker · 26/08/2013 15:18

Given that the ?conception was the result of AI do we even know who the father is? Anonymous donation from the one and only panda male interested in sex? Do you think they get to watch that panda porn beforehand.......

Do you think they get to watch that panda porn beforehand.......

Apparently that is one strategy. Shock

We were lucky enough to see her last month and they mentioned then that they were hopeful of her being pregnant although couldn't confirm. I am so excited.

Apparently if there is a cub it will be behind closed door until Jan 2014 and they get to keep it until it is two years old as apparently that's the age they'd leave the family unit anyway.

northernlurker · 26/08/2013 15:31

Oh I thought I'd read it was a year they had it for. Two years is much better Smile

That's what I heard Northern, I'm no Panda expert. What a job that would be though, yes, I must hold that baby Panda, I'm the expert dammit!

Oooer Tuon I am rather Envy that you have met Tian Tian!

Apparently the mother can re-absorb the embryo and become un-pregnant. It gets curiouser and curiouser.

Haa Grin northern I like the idea of it being an asylum seeker. Now I dont like to draw controversial comparisons but ... Apparently it costs the zoo squillions in special food (prime bamboo shoots, none of yer dried or frozen) and it just sits there all day, doing not very much, occasionally getting up off its rather voluptuous backside, strolling aroung to 'play to the audience' then going indoors for a sneeky lie-down. Easy life, I'd say!

They were both fabulous daisy, well worth a visit. They both strolled around indoors, then when we went outcome they came outside for a stroll. Zoo Keeper told us of the awful times he's taken people through and they saw nothing! Apparently there's only so much excitement for Panda's that aren't there.

The penguins fucking stink though.

Check out the Zoo Atlanta website - they have panda cubs and a baby rhino. DS2 checks on them daily!

I like the idea of it being an asylum seeker

All very well, but do they have giant flat screen tvs?

If not, then they are not such a big burden on society.

Panda porn? Given their apparent disinterest in sex, even how does panda porn get made? Was there a hey day for Panda porn and they're still wheeling out the old 70s Joy of Sex style Betamax tape. A dye job on 2 polar bears? Or 2 people in panda costumes?

I'm hoping it's in time to make Private Eye's front page:

Headline from Prince George's birth: Woman has baby
Simon Cowell baby: Another Woman to have baby

So we have to have "Panda has baby" (or cub if you're being picky!)
