I don't mind daddy long legs, but I woke DH up to get a spider wanting to get into bed with me last night.

DH told him to fuck right off

But dll's don't have any flying skills and do just go all over you, so if you're bothered, wake him up (unless he's got an early start in the morning? Not that it would stop me like).

Goodness - they go up the top of walls and ceilings. They won't come near you on the bed. Ignore it and it will get tired (or go away if you have your window open.)

I hate it - my MIL tried to instil fear of insects into my DD (who loves them and wants to keep them as pets). She turned a little girl who loves insects into one who screams hysterically at anything under 2cm long with legs, makes me stabby in a core deep way...

my mother is as bad "You can do anything a man can do - stop - don'T do that - ewwwwwwwwwwww! Ask your dad!"

Why?? Maybe for 0.05% of people (gender irrelevant) there is a real phobia, for others living in countries without deadly insects it is silly hysteria - stop it! My mum thinks it makes her attractively vulnerable, and I have friends I now think so much less of who think the same... There is no insect in the UK who will do you harm, stop being pathetic, unless you admit to knowing you are doing it for manipulative purposes.

My granny was like you MrTumble, cold and unsympathetic, trying to look at emotional responses through a scientific lens.

Minimialising things she couldn't feel herself.

Although I didn't live with her, it's a very difficult thing to deal with if you genuinely don't like something.

Why do you feel other people should 'man up' and stop being so weak? (as you see it)

Maybe some people who use manipulation as an everyday technique to get what they want might use insects as fodder, but they'd be like that anyway, and not everyone's the same.

We are quite rural here [north Cornwall] and thus surrounded by farms and country things etc.
The horses belong to a nice woman whos Dm used to own our cottage, so her horses (cows and geese) get out of her fields and pay us a little visit .

I will never forget the image of the horses amongst Dc garden toys! It did look for a moment like the trampoline and seesaw might not make it through the night!

We had to chase them up the road to try to get them back home and Dh had to loop his belt around the smaller ones neck (carefully, obvs. We didn't have any horsey stuff or a rope) and the bigger one just followed after, which really was very sweet to see.
I managed to find a gate to open, so they are now in with The cows and seem quite happy.

Ha ha AgentZigZag - my husband laughs in my face because I am up due to being overly sympathetic to my 5 year old's nightmares.

My mother wants everyone to help her due to over dramatised and hammed up fears and inabilities. It make me loathe her, as I know that when there is nobody about she deals with such things without a backward glance. I don't tell her or anyone this, but I am quite sure a lot of women are conditioned to believe they should project these silly fears as they are feminine, and my daughter never had these fears by nature - my MIL with her hysteria nurtured and created fears (ONLY in my DD, not in my 2 DSs) where none existed.

They are a social construct in countries where there are no deadly insects.

Got to admit, I do not have a phobia, so it is a dislike.

OH doesn't share that dislike, so he's the best man for the job.

He also sleeps really well, he's a shift worker and getting back to sleep for him, is so easy, he could sleep on a clothes line.

It's not that I'm being unsympathetic to you MrTumble () because I know someone who, it seems, makes an over-inflated fuss of not liking an animal, and you can't help thinking 'if you stand there flapping your fucking arms about, then they're going to pay attention to you, aren't they? '

But then, they're generally a manipulative person anyway, so maybe I'm just colouring it with what I know of them anyway.

And in some ways I can be unsympathetic to DD1 about, but that's because she's a drama llama who acts like she's cut off her fucking hand when she's just got a paper cut

I make an effort to give her it when it's 'appropriate' IYSWIM.

Aww for your 5 YO's nightmares as well, my dad didn't understand about the dark/night terrors I had (I was unlucky sometimes in family shit ) and it was awful when it's not something you can help.
