Ive always loved horror films but i just cant watch this for some reason! Ive started it 3-4 times then turn it off after about 10 mins, something about it just really freaks me out!

I really didn't find it scary. I think there might be something wrong with me.

I read the book beforehand and only felt moderately uneasy.

I didn't find it scary, I hadn't even read the book. It was just a predictable old Hammer Horror to me.

I've read the book and I didn't find that scary but I haven't watched the film yet.

Same here Shabby.
I bought it for Christmas, watched maybe 15 minutes and that was it.
Didn't get to any scarey bits but DH went off to bed so I couldn't carry on.

It's in it's box

I didn't find it scary at all. After all the hype I was really disappointed. I spent most of the time crying laughing at the hysterical girls sat in front of me who were terrified and were jumping out of their seats at the slightest thing.

Eek! I watched it in French and it was still scary.

I'm not good at things that make me jump though.

I was petrified. Hated it.

Flipping Eck, I wouldn't be able to. I shit myself watching it with dp. I even had to ask him to sit on my sofa and hold my hand Blush
I am not usually easily scared but something about it really freaked me out.

I watched it with DH and I was bloody terrified, one of the scariest movies I've seen ever. I wouldn't dare watch it alone. Yabu :o

Urgh, I nearly climbed under my seat in the cinema at one point. There's no way I could watch it alone, am impressed by your foolishness bravery OP.

I've seen the play and was petrified. Do you know what's coming.
I'm watching captain Corelli's mandolin. Spoiler alert- I think there's a snake coming...

But be thankful that it is not the tv adaptation that is far more scary it has only been shown once

I just got to the last 20 minutes of Paranormal Activity 4 then switched it off. I wouldn't even attempt to watch Woman in Black.

It didn't help that the toddler sneaked downstairs and whispered "mum" in a creepy voice.

I love Captain Corelli film but the book is awful. So grim.

Woman in Black is both terrifying and so so sad.

Film is absolute crap in my opinion. I have read the book and seen the stage show, which is really good. Far superior to the film.

I teach the novel for GCSE.

The film's a bit too jump scary & silly to be genuinely creepy in a lasting way.

My year 10s enjoyed it - & laughed their socks off at ye olde TV adaptation, which is notorious but isn't actually that scary if you watch it now tbh.

We've just watched 'The Shining' as part of our work on the haunted house genre. The verdict was 'Yeah, that actually did proper shit me up, miss' from one of my likely lads!

That said TWiB will make you jump. Wouldn't fancy watching it on my own late night for the first time.

Oh yes the tv one is much scarier! And Whistle and I'll Come to You... Bloody hell!

I'm not quite alone, DD is downstairs in her room. She just rang my mobile and made me jump though flippin lazy arse teenager

I think the solution is to have the sound off and the subtitles on, no sudden noises or creepy music Grin

I watched the tv version when it was on in the late 90's and I was terrified. I got my sister to stand outside the loo as I was petrified but couldnt hold it in for much longer.

I havent seen the new version yet.

wanderings · 29/06/2013 07:38

Yes; the 90's TV version was really and truly scary. I haven't actually seen the modern version; I'm wondering if it's worth it!
