AIBU?

To want to strangle the driver that drove down the wrong side of the road....

Milliways · 28/06/2013 20:47

at speed
forcing my DH to swerve onto pavement
Then hit DH's car, pushing it into a lampost
Then carried on taking the entire side of the Drivers side out
Then thought about waking up and braking! Angry

DH's beautifully kept, almost new, car is totalled

We were supposed to be driving it to the airport for our holiday tomorrow!

Instead of packing, we have been dealing with police and insurance

DH is now at the hospital being checked safe to fly as getting very stiff and sore.

Can I have some wine??

wow, your poor dh - that must have been terrifying. What on earth was the other driver doing - did they have a seizure or something, or are they just a complete arse?

poor dh and poor you.

Complete arse of a "profesional" driver - probably asleep at wheel as did not attempt to slow or swerve. He had a passenger!
DH has witnesses who all confirmed he came full pelt around a corner on wrong side.

YANBU. Speaking as someone who is sat here in agony after a trip to the Osteopath yesterday, because some dickhead in a motorhome drove at me last week, causing me to swerve, smashed my wing mirror (yes I realise I was very fortunate for it to be just that), and gave me whiplash, have wine. Lots of it.

In all seriousness, hope DH is okay, you're okay and you get off on your holidays tomorrow. And hope the idiot has the book thrown at them.

Oh milliways, I am so sorry. But you are OK so the car did its job.

Oh poor DH. What time are you flying? Is there time for him to have a hot bath and a long lay-in?

Police said we will probably have to go to court as he is being reported for "Careless driving". It was obvious, as DHs car was on pavement jammed in a post, and his car was just behind on our side of the road

I am so thankful for safe cars, insurance, and amazing friends who are driving him to hospital now and us to airport tomorrow. The RAC even phoned to check he got home ok and to wish us happy hols.

Book a taxi and bill it to the other driver's insurance company as out of pocket expenses.

Happy holiday, hope your poor DH recovers swiftly.

Well very glad you have had good responses from everyone - what a (insert swear word of choice) idiot!

When out driving to park near us to look for our missing cat early one morning (6.30am) someone drove up behind us flashing his lights - we pulled over and watched him swerve about the road then followed him to a house where I asked him (politely in case maybe he had an emergency) why he flashed his lights at us.

He was utterly plastered Sad then verbally abused us before I drove away Angry needless to say I reported him and he was eventually picked up and charged (longer story involved but that's the jist)

Very, very glad we we not hit, glad you were not injured (physically but am sure, like us you were very shaken) hope he gets charged and you get all your expenses paid.

Hope you do enjoy your holiday and not let his appalling behaviour ruin that too

Once saw an arse of a driver scrape into a line of parked cars. My face was like this Shock Dh and I coudln't believe he did it but even more aghast that the idiot didn't stop - he just merrily kept on, knocking off wing mirrors as he went. (We called the cops, obv.)

Shock

I just hate the fact that both our insurance policies will go up (even though protected) and we will have to explain this on every insurance application for the next 3-5 years.

Thank heavens for gap insurance - at least we won't have to take the depreciation hit.

Just check your travel insurance before you go. Make sure you're covered in case he's a bit unwell on holiday, god forbid. Hope you have a lovely time! not jealous in any way

I hope your DH is ok Milliways and you manage to have a lovely holiday.

Last year I pulled out from behind a lorry to overtake it on the A1 at 70 mph (it's a dual carriage way). I was alongside it when I saw a car coming straight for me traveling the wrong way up the dual carriage way in my lane. I dropped my speed immediately and got back in behind the lorry, and fortunately the car managed to get into a flat area of the wide central reservation. It was really scary.

When I reported it to the Police they said lots of people had reported it, but no-one had managed to get his registration number probably because we were all so shocked to see him doing what he was doing!
