AIBU?

To expect a 7 year old not to piss all over the bathroom?

My friend's DS visits us fairly often. Whenever he has used the bathroom we discover the seat, unraised, and with piss liberally sprayed all over it and the floor. Nor does he ever flush, even after a poo. AIBU to think that this is poor form? Or is my friend BU in not teaching her child bathroom etiquette? The child is intelligent and tall enough to reach everything, no SN. He looks blank when we have gently pointed it out.

That doesn't sound good! I don't have a DS but I would have expected them to have a better aim by 7 and certainly that is old enough to know to flush.

When he visits is he alone or with your friend? If the latter could you ask her to go with him because he has left the place in a mess the last few times? It might shame her in to having a word with him.

If he is alone then could you remind him before he goes and then check afterwards and, if he has left it in a mess point this out to him. If you keep doing it he might get the message.

YANBU to insist. A child of 7 is capable of doing better. The occasional accident maybe but not repeatedly forgetting to flush.

Oh dear that is awful and another reason why I will be training my son to sit down right from when we start potty training. Toilets are not shaped for men to wee in them standing up there is always splashing and it is embarassing. The rule in our house is everyone sits down!

Four boys here and that is rank! My five year old knows better! Seriously from potty training you teach them to aim/sit down or lift seat and wipe up any drips!

The blank look when he mention it to him would really wind me up. Does he not respond at all? Surely you've mentioned it to his mother. You shouldn't have to keep cleaning up after him.

I would remind him next time he visits, check the toilet afterwards and if it's in a ess give himtbe right things to clean it up with

Oh I hate this, my ds sometime misses and just leaves it. There is NOTHING so horrible than not noticing and sitting on the loo to be faced with a wet bum and legs....

Shame him, with have you wiped the seat, pulled the flush and washed your hands, EVERY time he come out the loo.

Make him Clean it up. Give him a bowl with mild soapy water a cloth. I did that with dd when she was potty training at 3.5 and it seemed to work. I would ten go over it Properly.

Greenkit, she would probably just get a blank look if she did that, as she does now. He obviously couldn't care less. I'd speak to his mother.

It's not your responsibility to teach him toilet etiquette, talk to his mum.

Agree rank.. My dss wouldn't have done this at 7. However they had a friend with a fairly hippy mother who used to poo on our toilet and leave crap on the seat and never flushed!

Needless to say not asked round much.

If I were you I would tell him to go back in to the toilet and sort out the mess himself.

DS (4) use to pee all over the seat so we told him to lift it up first which is much easier. I'd go mad at him doing it at 7 and mortified if he did it at someone else's house even now without cleaning it up never mind at 7.

Thanks for the replies. piglet I plan not to have him round for some time, I've got my hands full with my own toddler and baby.

His mum's approach is pretty laissez faire in some respects, this one being the most unpleasant in its impact on others.

Ask the mum if he is circumcised and if he is not then does he know to pull his foreskin right back to urinate. That could be the cause of the stray urine.

DT's are 4 ... If they pee on the toilet seat / floor / walls they are given some cleaner and loo roll to clean it off (supervised)

A few cherios or a ping pong ball gives them something to aim at :)
